The bigger benefit of the PDK is the ability for it to quickly shift down to first for really slow corners, and then return to second, with no effort required from the driver. This is particularly so for people who disable auto blip, then fumble to heel and toe coming into a difficult corner, and then just decide to stay in second.
Shifting down to 1st 6mt to come out of a corner you will lose more time from
the downshift and immediate upshift to 2nd than staying in 2nd. Sebring hairpin, turn 7, is a 35 to 40 mph turn and even in 2nd gear you get wheel spin. The shorter PDK would be even worse.

I was referring more to cautious driving on two laned back roads were you’re not at or near the limits of traction. Given the time to shift and back on a manual, shifting to first wouldn’t actually save much if any time, but could be more fun for the poster complaining about inadequate torque in 2nd gear at 30 mph and below. At 35 mph+, downshifting to first makes no sense, particularly on a manual.

Below 30 mph, downshifting to first could save a little time, particularly on an automatic instant shifting PDK.

This is why it was a bad idea to break up the 718 and 981 GT4 forums vs combining them. That said, it's interesting there isn't the same conflict between 991.1 and 991.2 GT3 buyers. When the new 991.2 GT cars were announced, pretty much everyone upgraded with little discussion whether the upgrade was "worth" the cost (separate from value threads). In that forum, newer is always better, of course you buy the next one, and skipping a generation is for poor people. With GT4 buyers there's been a lot of discussion over whether it is worth moving to the 718 and I think people have made up their minds and the desire to upgrade is not as unanimous as with the GT3 buyers.

Just came back from an amazing weekend at the track, starting to feel like I'm getting the hang of this engine in the back thing, but still so much to learn with the 981. I'd rather be working on my spreadsheet to choose new gears than picking options on a 718 - shorter 3rd and 4th are going to be awesome. I'm already running 8k+ rpm redline and that extra rpm with the stock gearing is crazy long, no wonder more reviewers are noting the long gearing on the 718 this time around.

For those in Canada, my CA confirmed he put me in the ordering system as of yesterday. Don't have much infos, but I want a PDK anyways, so as soon as the ordering slots open for the PDK (likely Q1 2020), he will make the switch.

Also, anyone has a confirmation if NA cars have or don't have the OPFs?

Hi Simon! Also on the list for a GT4 in Canada. Not expecting a first year build slot. 2nd year will have me debate over manual/PDK... bummer!

I think Porsche over priced the new GT4 and it’s basically not worth the upgrade for some.

Yep, need one forum for both GT4s.

Now that the C8 has been announced, it does feel a bit overpriced. However, seeing the ADM on the last GT4, it would not be a good business decision for Porsche to leave money on the table.

Yup, Porsche had a gem with a reasonably priced mid engine. They now priced the GT4 too high and still held back the PDK and performance to not upset 911 buyers. This allowed Chevy to swoop in with the C8 and is steal the crown as the mid engine performance fun car that can be had for under 100k. I am waiting to see more about the C8, but my GT4 slot is certainly in jeopardy.

Go sit in a Corvette and report back. I cant imagine that the C8 will suddenly be a significant departure from previous generations in terms of essentially every single touch point within the car. Different interior design yes, but itll feel the same. Maybe going fast is all that matters?
