718 GT4?

Now that sounds more like a plan! Leave the 4-cylinder 2.0 on the base and upgrade the GTS and maybe the S to the new 6-cyl N/A....the question would be in what state of tune or displacement you would want those models under the GT4.

The 718 GT4 and Spyder were both parked outside the Porsche Museum at Zuffenhausen yesterday. They look very impressive in the metal.

Anyone notice that most of the display models that have been shown, have had the older version GT2 euro seats in the cars vs the more current 918 seats ? I thought you could option either in Europe, but it seems odd that most of the cars are configured with the earlier seats ... ???
i don’t know why in the world I would be drawn to the seats though ...

I think they are not the 918 seats, they include Thorax airbags and electric height setup.... Which I don't think 918 seats did in the past... Code in the GT4 is P11 as in the 991.2 GT3RS...

in Australia the 981 Spyder came standard with the Sport Bucket seats standard, not only has the new 982 base car increased significantly they now only come with 4W seats as standard. The 981 GT4 in Aus came with the 4Ws, nothing changed there with the 982.

The choice offered for bucket seats varies by territory, in the UK Spyder both types of bucket seats are available but the Cayman gets only the full lightweight buckets.

In the US (and Canada I believe) they require the height adjustment switch, so therefore the 918 seat is the only one that’s available in this market.

I was thinking about your post yesterday while running 75-80 mph in 6th in a 991.2 Carrera, which worked out to 2500~ rpm to 2650~ rpm where, iirc, my GT4 was turning 3500~ rpm. It's just a nicer way to go down the road, and there's still plenty of torque for passing. Or you drop to 5th or 4th. Or 3rd if you really want to. Or you shift into 7th on a longer ride and the rpm really drops. 1700-1900~ rpm freeway cruising from SF to LA? It's pretty nice, and means one less stop for gas on that trip.
Conversely, the Carrera gets out of the hole better in 2nd or 3rd on back roads, and the gearing definitely plays a part in that. The 991's tighter stack means more shifting on the back roads I favor, and that translates into more fun with the powertrain. A stock GT4 is using a lot of fuel while spinning at 3500 rpm on the freeway, for no real gain to speak of. Doesn't need the power it's making to maintain that speed. Conversely, a 2nd gear good to 84 mph and a 3rd gear good to 112~ mph seem awfully tall to me. As PeteVB points out, first gear is one of Porsche's historic highs. I still think a GT4/Spyder might really wake up with a full set of gears, and my preference for a first swipe remains 1-5 and 6th or 7th from a 991 7MT.
But it won't be an inexpensive endeavor...and the GT4 is very, very good as is.

Always seemed as thought the GT4s wing was tacked on. Not a Pep Boys special but not much better. The new wing shape looks much better and more integrated with the rear styling.

I Agree.....and the whole rear of the car is growing on me the more I look at it in pics and the configurator......thank God I can have that Porsche logo black-out...that's the only thing I still don't like about the new rear design.
