Doesn't that depend on which headlights you spec?

Yeah, it sure sounds disappointing. I'm still hoping that Porsche is sandbagging the sound. They know how big of a deal it is for enthusiasts. So, by muffling the sound, they can spring a pleasant surprise at launch. Yes, GT4 CS sounds good; but, it's not street legal! Not constrained by road-regs. So, CS isn't an indicator of street-version, for sound. The Particulate Filter is built into the exhaust system. I don't expect tuners to offer a system without it. Such a system will mess with the regs and fail the test, not to mention the warranty and other complications. If the production version ends up sounding as bad as this proto, we're screwed! However, the reason for my optimism is that there was a Spyder proto on the street sounded good. It was only a few seconds at low RPM; but, sounded similar to 981. May be it was one of those many different versions that may not make the production!

Agree with Henry, disappointing exhaust note compared to current Spyder.

I don't know much about the new particulate filters or how Porsche will implement them. However, I did some brief research about it online and it appears that it will be implemented in a very similar way as a catalytic converter. It can be a separate unit or integrated into one of the existing cats. So it seems to me that (assuming particulate filters do impact sound negatively in the Porsche implementation) solving that problem will be the same as the cat problem. Plenty of vendors supply race headers. Depending on where you live (especially in the US) it may be more or less difficult to deal with the local emissions regulations. So I can't see how anyone would be screwed. If any 718 GT4 owner wants to fix the potential sound issue, it should be pretty straight forward.

This is a very technical presentation on the topic of particulate filter implementations: https://www.energy.gov/sites/prod/fi...12_bischof.pdf

From what im told the 718 GT4/Spyder will sound much better then the 981 GT4/Spyder. This was one of the complaints from the 981 series that Porsche set out to make better this time around.

Are they adding Dundon headers from the factory?

No, but the new exhaust note is supposedly good enough to make you think twice before opening your wallet for some headers....

I'm not really sure how they're going to do that, even the GT3/RS needs a Sharky bypass to sound optimal in my opinion.

Actually the 997 GT3 series really needed the sharky, but on the 991 GT3, porsche actually made it decent to the point that a Sharky almost made it too loud for some....

People complained that the Spyder exhaust sounded bad? First time I’ve heard that. 981 Spyder sounds epic on the gas.
