Does anyone know if the new GT4 will have the particulate filter installed?
And if so, how it would affect sound and performance
and what additional changes/enhancements would need to be made to compensate?
- Yes, it has to.
- We don't know yet. But performance is irrelevant as whatever horsepower number is claimed it is claimed to make with the filter. There will probably be a bit more to gain than usual with aftermarket solutions that get rid of it.
Some speculation on other cars that manufacturers will exclude the GPF for US meaning those cars may make slightly more power. Not an incredible source but Autoblog was speculating about this very thing on the Toyota Supra/BMW Z4. Any chance Porsche tests both?

we speak about the Clubsport version (i guess. because this was not exactly told...
this i got 2nd hand:
3,8l (last minute decission against a/the 4.0l engine)
+ WLS components - WLS in German is: "Werks Leistungs Steigerung" (in English i don´t know. i could translat into: OEM hp tuning) in other words: X51
meaning same engine as 991.1 GTS
420hp

And just like that, the thread is back online...but you're breaking hearts from here to New Zealand!

John...we still need to send you the new car for the 4.0L......
The 420 HP figure sounds about right for the 3.8L with X51. If I had to choose between 4.0L and X51 I'll take the X51......If the X51 is true, BGB already has done much of the research on 3.8L cars with X51 + mods, so we should be able to add mods right out of the gate.

Unlikely. Power is whatever Porsche wants to make at this price/performance point, its not like they are only giving the car 420HP because they are limited by the PF.
And being a German manufacturer, of the VAG group specially, they are not interested in selling dirtier versions of the same cars outside of the EU. Doesn't look right for them.

Any mention of a particle filter in the exhaust (do race cars have to use this)?

I always felt the 981 GT4 should have come with the X51 which is why i slammed one in our car 4 weeks after delivery and headed off to the race track with it to test; i wanted to see a 4.0L X51 in the 982 (718...whatever you wanna call it) so we could see power closer to 500hp, which is probably why we keep building 4.0L X51 motors here in the shop. Either way, upon taking delivery of the new car i think that less and less folks will feel that the car is running out of steam at the high end of the RPM range. Porsche will deliver with a nicely revised piece and years from now we will dig up these old threads and reflect on whatever iteration the GT4 has morphed into vs. what it was today. It's only their 2nd attempt at producing a track oriented Cayman with 911 power...down the road the car will get more and more massaged and Cayman fans will benefit.

Can you please explain what X51 is?
Also, since you drove the car without X51 first, and then added it to the GT4, what changes did you notice?
Not lazy to search, but I think it would benefit a lot of people in this thread to know what exactly they are adding and what makes it add power to the 3.8 motor.
