Default Will the VW scandal bankrupt VW? and subsequently Porsche?

There's a lot of speculation if the incredible scandal on VW Diesel engines, may bankrupt the company, or at least damage it too much beyond repair!

What do you guys think? Is there such a risk in play? I don't think so, but who knows...

With high volume sales leaders like Cayenne and Macan to pay the bills, so to speak, could Porsche now survive as an independent company?

Default Any Porsche fallout from the VW fiasco?

Sounds like a potential backbreaker for VW. I read they may cut R and D across the board. Is it possible any Porsche vehicles could be affected?

You can bet every CEO and every car division is scrambling internally to see if they have similar software in their builds, especially if their control unit are made by Bosch. The California Air Resources Board were the ones that caught the program, not the Feds. And they only just discovered it in the small VW built diesel. They have come out and stated they are going to test all makes of cars more aggressively now for similar software, so stay tuned. My guess is gas engines are probably all going to pass but ones like the diesel in the Cayenne are going to get a hard look.

Read that one out of seven Germans work for VW. Wouldn't be pretty if the company goes under.

We have been looking at a diesel Cayenne. According to what I can figure out, the 6 cylinder is different than the 4 cylinder because of Ad-Blue, which I have not researched. However, there is a story in the Detroit newspaper that EPA intends to investigate the 6 cylinder diesel engines. Needless to say, my wife and I are not prepared to buy Porsche diesel, not only because the 6 might have the same issue as the 4, but also because diesel resale values undoubtedly have dropped. And, of course, Muller might become the CEO of VW, which means a new one for Porsche. All in all, I'm sure this is having a profound effect on VW, Audi and Porsche.

Default Will VW diesel engine scandal affect Porsche?

Article on the PCA website asks the question "Will VW diesel engine scandal affect Porsche?".

https://www.pca.org/news/2015-09-22/...affect-porsche

The article states the EPA will expand its investigation to include models equipped with the VW-sourced 3.0-liter diesel V6 found in the Porsche Cayenne Diesel.

How will this scandal affect the mindset of owners of all Porsche vehicles and the integrity of the brand?

I couldn't care one bit.

Do I care that VW did this? nope.

Do i think it will affect porsche? sure, but i don't think it should.

Integrity of the brand? It would need integrity first for it to be affected.

The VW group has long been a tug of war between the Porsche and Piech families as I understand it. The just deposed CEO was I believe a Piech insider. Lots of fingers will be pointed for sure about who knew and to what level.
I don't think the Cayenne Diesel is going to bring Porsche down, but as a division of the mother company there may be some austerity budgets ahead.
