Question Kids and Modified Cars...

Here are some things I just don't get about what kids do to vehicles these days:

Huge wings that serve no purpose

5" round "Maxwell House" exhaust pipes

Suspension soooo low that handling is ruined

Stupid, cheap, clear tail lamp lenses

Neon headlight washers

Blue Headlights

Stereos which exceed the value of the vehicle

Huge tires and wheels, i.e. way too big for the car

What ever happened to keeping your car stealth?, bacuse as we all know, the money spent on the stuff listed abouve does nothing for the performance of these cars.

I guess I am just tired of seeing every Honda, Acura, Nissan, Neon, etc., etc., etc. with all of this crap bolted on. It is getting old. On the other hand, I'd like to own the company making all of this crap.......they are making an absolute fortune off of these poor kids...

It amazes me, for the money they dump into a Honda Civic, they could be buying an S2000!

"Youth" and "logical thinking" are often mutually exclusive....

Reminds me of an old hot-rodder saying: "If it don't go fast, chrome it!"
Today, chrome seems to have been replaced by neon and "indiglo".
If it keeps the kids out of crack houses, I'm all for it. Let them have
their fun....
But coffee-can fart pipes DO annoy me a little.

i'm 19, got the nick name "krautboy" basically meaning a German riceboy cuz i modded my 944, have decals and a straight thru exhaust making the car loud. But at least it intrigues and discourages them riceboys who attempt to compete with Porsches. When they see a tricked up Porsche they sit in awe in their overly lowered, 19" rimmed, honda badge stolen, bass busting bolt losening sound systems in their weird funny lookin 'bodykit' cars in this area of town.

Today's ricer is yesterday's hotrodder. I can imagine the parents of the 50s and 60s saying the same thing about their kids.

Its a form of art. I don't particularly like it, but I respect what is happening.

I first noticed the younger generations (I'm 43) with their monster trucks, then slammed lowrider pickups, and now slammed, loud, painted, decaled rice burners. I can live with all those, but it's the big, wide, lowrider pants, pierced everything, etc. that I have a hard time with.

But, as Stinky points out, what I did in my younger days was probably seen as the beginning of Hell with my long hair, listening to the Rolling Stones (and still do) among other things!

The hair is short now. I have a great wife, kids and job. And I'm acting more and more like my Dad as the years go by.

Funny how these things work.

Kinda scary, isn't it....
Total agreement here on the "piercings" thing, many of these people will
likely live to regret their self-mutilation....

Theres many people on this board that enjoy tuning and modifying their 993's...I'm sure many of the guys who modify Hondas/Nissans/Toyotas would love to own and modify a Porsche but it simply comes down to cost at the end of the day.

Each to their own at the end of the day. I had a Nissan before the 993 and it was great fun playing with it, was 290BHP @ Flywheel and lighter than the 993...and cars like that lend themselves to tuning. Its (relatively) cheap and easy.

The people you see driving round in slammed Honda Civics could well be driving round in 996's in 5-10 years time

Burnham,
Was that a Skyline?, what are they like to drive compared to a Porsche.
I'd imagine faster but without the 'class'
-and a bit big for UK roads.

I think I should point out that we Porsche drivers are a tad hypocritical when we don't criticise, for instance, 911 owners who mod their cars to look like GT2's, GT3's or Turbos (C4S!).

The big GT2/3 aerokits with their big spoilers and GT3 wheels will probably never see a race track, and therefore these mods serve no purpose either, apart from making the owners think they're driving something they're not.

It seems to me that we're saying it's O.K. to mod cars as long as the cars and these mods are EXPENSIVE and tasteful in OUR opinions! We need to give the Ricers a break and live and let live.

IMHO, the classic 993/996 shape without aerokits /big spoilers is the best aesthetically, but I'm not going to start ranting at people who don't share my views and choose to modify the classic 911 lines (although privately, I might consider them tasteless, however much the mods cost).

Performance mods are always O.K. though!

These two sites have lots of kewl ricer mods. I believe they will fit on all Porsche models.
