Talking Shark Bites 996

Driving home last night, I was challenged by the driver of a blue 996. We went hit it from various speeds, 1st, 2nd, and third gear. Even once in a big sweeper. All results the same. My 14 year old shark drove away from, around and past the extremely annoyed driver of this 996. I must say I was surprised. He's probably trying to rub the teeth marks out as we speak.

DJ sometimes the truth is loud and clear. I just call it as I see it.

Carlos: What is the point of posting this on the 996 board? It isn't the fastest way to make Porsche friends.

Please forgive George and Carlos, they don't know any better.

As a relatively long-time 996 owner and Rennlist member, I just wanted to post and say that I am not the same person as this other dork with a similar name!

=CarlosR=

P.S. On the track, my 996 regularly leaves 928S4's in the dust, so I can only assume the 996 driver didn't know how to drive the car, or the 928 was modified to increase power. That is, assuming this all even happened!

Dear CarlosR & Tabor, First let me say that the name calling makes you look great. Second the point of my post was to express my surprise that my 14 year old 928 dusted the current wundercar. And if that affects my ability to make "friends" on this board then too damn bad. I anyone is so insecure that what I said hurt their feelings, get some help. But I think the real reason you're upset is that you expected more from these cars also. You are probably of same mentality as these guys who give instructions on how to properly sneer with disdain at at drivers of other cars who challenge you at a light. Well I didn't challenge this nitwit, he came after me and I handed his *** to him. If that disrupts your tender sensabilities then too damn bad.

Hey Carlos.

Good job on bringing to light Porsche's dirty little secret... That in 14 years they have not improved their technology. NOT!!!

Congratulations on being a much better driver than the guy you supposedly dusted, but get a clue.

Eric, You have the same problem as a lot of guys. You are so enamored by statistics that reality passes you by. The difference between you and me is this: I understand that my car is not really very fast. But for some of you guys to come to that same realization is somehow akin to losing a dick measuring contest. So here it is plain and simple: "however fast or slow my '87 928 S4 is, I abused the **** out of whoever was driving the shiny blue 996 that jumped on me 2 nights ago." If you have a problem with that it's yours to deal with.

I've been a 5 time Porsche owner since 1986-incl 4 911s. I've driven many 928 iterations. Just wasn't my cup of tea - the car seemed lumbering in a Corvette kind of way.Didn't like the wide high center console - felt like I was sitting in a bathtub. Although the 928 was always faster than same year 911 , I always preferred the 911's quickness and efficient size. I respect the keepers of the 928 flame - they are good values, as mid 80s 911s are still selling for up to 50% MSRP, but 928s can be had for 20% MSRP or less.

I was cruising in my 928 and pulled up to this new 996. Turned and looked at each other. Gave each other a nod and drove off on our merry way. Yea, we're both comfortable with our ***** size.

I have also been challenged too many times to count. I guess the RMB on the 928GT must attract the "more dollars than sense" crowd.

Anyway, I have nothing to prove. My car is not the fastest, but fast enough. It's not the most nimble, but nimble enough. My ***** is not the biggest, well - you know.

To street racing participants - GROW UP! I don't care how much you paid for your car, the streets are not your private playground.

I agree with Ed. Go to the track! To emphasize the point:

When Great Cars are Driven by Stupid People...

Carlos, are you paying attention?

Man that wreck is horrible. And to think their wives were in the cars with them. I don't need to point out the tradegy in this that the Volvo person was killed and he was not involved in any way. Actions do have consequences.

And for Carlos, I submit this picture of my 'lowly' stock 993 after passing a 928 on the track never to hear from him agian. And yes we are both instructors, so the driver is removed from the equation.

Just keepin' it Real!
