944 ? 928 ?? 911 ????
Hello everybody.
Before going any further, please don't be too hard on my writing because my first language is French, so i write, speak and live in french.
OK. I have between 10 to 18,000$ to spend on a Porsche. The problem is that i like 911-928-944 !
Would you suggest me to buy for example a older 911 or should i go for a newer 928 or 944 for the money ?? It would be a third car, so it will be for my pleasure only Thanks,

No one can answer that question for you. You'll just have to go looking, and test driving some examples for yourself. They are different cars in many ways. Each has their own character strengths and weaknesses. None of them are cheap to keep, so allow for budget to maintain them. My suggestion would be to find a particular car that appeals to you, then start watching that model's board to learn from the posts of others.
You have already taken a big step by finding this website. Lots of friendly folks here, willing to give out a lot of free advice. Just take everything with a grain of salt. We all have our biases. Welcome to the addiction.

That's a great reply.
Also, be aware that, whatever you buy, you won't be happy with it!
If you don't buy a 911, you'll wonder if you should have done.
If you do buy a 911, you'll wonder if you should have stretched to a later model.
Then you'll wonder what you should do to 'upgrade' your car, should you have put that money into a later version, etc., etc.
But, whatever you decide to get, you will be on the verge of addiction.

Porschefreak, there are good years and not so good years in all of the models you mention, and if you are not in any rush and have access to Excellence Magazine I would get the issues where Bruce Anderson reviews and values all models of Porsches. Some may argue that his values are incorrect, but nevertheless it is good to read about his comments on specific models that have been more troublesome than others. I'm far from an expert but I do know that there are troublesome years in all of the models you mention.
Good luck with your choice!

Another suggestion would be to go to www.pca.org and look for the region that Montreal is in (Rennsport I think) If that region has a website there should be some ways to contact local people who you could talk to, maybe find out where a meeting or event was to visit etc. All of us really secretly don't like many things more than talking Porsche. Also you can now join PCA without owning a car which may provide some access to information and potential buys.
Also what do you want out of the car? That could make a big difference.

10 - 18,000 probably isn't going to get you a fantastic 911, but you can get a good 944 or 951 or 968 and upgrade the car significantly, with money left over. Just my 2 cents....

PorscheFreak,
Is that $10,000-$18,000 in Canadian funds? For that amount of money you can't really get a good 911. As far as 928's, they are rarer but you can get some in the 15K to 20K range. But almost all of them are automatics. That range should get you a nice 944. I bought a 944 Turbo about 3 months ago, but those are very rare in Quebec. I found mine through www.Hebdo.net.
