I moved to Germany this year and in the middle of one of their worse winters. It was a terrifying experience for Brit who's not used to snow. I live in the hilly forrests which made it worse. I was driving a late 1970s E21 BMW 3 series on extra wide winter tyres through ignorance!
I switched to 165 winter tyres but up some hills the little bimmer would still struggle.
I'm using my 993 Turbo4 a bit in the summer time but am wondering what to do for the winter. I may get a Golf or something cheap- although the 993s 4 WD and rear engine is ideal- I wonder what the narrowest winter tyres I can fit to the 993 Turbo4? I'd also be worried about rust, as they tend to salt the roads ALOT here in Germany.....

Either our Jeep Wrangler beater or (if the wife wants to zip around in the Jeep) the BMW X5. However, as long as there is no snow/salt on the ground, I'll be in the Cayman S.

As has already been pointed out no real winter in the People’s Republic of Kalifornia. But my daily driver is my F-150 Supercrew. Mainly because I need to haul around my tools & test equipment and it won't all fit in my Shark.

Actually, I like it. It has rack and pinion steering and is quit tractable on the highway. It gets almost 20mpg with it's I-5 engine, the only problem it's not very fast. It excels off road, one of the last true SUV's that do that.
