List of my last 4 winter beaters:

1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4
1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4
2001 Dodge Durango 4x4
2004 GMC Envoy 4x4 (current beater)

all were bought new. I use them for 3 years and then pass the future problems on to the second owner.

Now that's quite the collection, there. I just ask as we have 2 cars in the family now. I want to add a P-Car, but I also don't want to keep commuting in my current car as I want to keep the miles off it and start modifying it. And I don't want it to have to suffer through another Iowa winter.

I have thought about picking up a used Honda Accord or Acura Legend or something like that. I commute 600+ miles per week for work and other family stuff, so I would like something I can just rack the miles up on, keep my current car, and add a P-car (my first one - finally).

Thanks for all the input so far.

Same car I drive in the summer. Different tires/wheels obviously. Best handling car in the snow I have ever owned.

I won't (well, can't bring myself to) drive a P-car on salt covered roads. My 05 Subaru Legacy GT Ltd. Wagon is a good all around vehicle, and with Blizzak LM-25's is a very good car in the snow. It carries 4 people in comfort, or 2 people with an 8' stepladder.

01 VW Jetta. It isn't AWD but with the limited snow we get in Central Illinois it works well. Certainly would rather have the salt on it than the 993 which is the only reason I won't drive the C4 in the winter. Truth be known, the C4 is a better car on slippery roads.

I have an 03 X5 3.0i that I drive in the wintertime. However, love to pull whatever convertible that is living in the garage out when the weather cooperates.

I've been talking to the wife about a 964 C4 cabrio for me to drive in winter - her to have fun with in the summer.

Right now we have a pair of Audi's.
