White looks great. It's subtle and doesn't scream LOOK AT ME! It's one of the classiest looks. My personal favorites are White, Black and Red ( red only for sports cars like Porsche, and Ferrari). Actually wanted white but purchasing used the right spec came up so I bought it despite the Carmine Red which I thought was going to be a police magnet. Turns out it hasn't been and I like it more and more. It use to be only the three colors mentioned above were the car colors I would consider, but when it comes to sports cars, many other colors are growing on me. In my opinion it's now becoming more about the paint job itself than the color. A great well maintained and polished paint job always looks good. The more I see great cars in colors like Racing Yellow, Lava Orange, Miami Blue, and some of the new Chalk, Aventurine Green, or others, I realize a beautifully maintained finish on a great car is to be appreciated. Every car I have purchased over the last 50 years has been Black, or White until the addition of the red one. If you buy a Ferrari for me it almost has to be red.

For another historical perspective like noted above by "last935" is yes white was the "official" color for German race cars -red =Italy; green= England; blue= france etc,However when Mercedas and auto union stripped off the white paint to save weight on the aluminum body race cars you then had -silver.; bare aluminum. Also for non international racing white became the popular color because it showed up the best in black and white publications and magazines before color magazines became the norm. It helped show off the sponsers of the cars which is where the money came from. Brumos Porsche choose white for this reason. Colored race cars do not show up well in black and white photos
Remember the Pooper Porsche in the targa Florio, Disguised the then silver for German cars by painting it with white house paint with brushes.
Lot of history on what seems to be a simple basic color.

1) minimizes heat soak when car parked in full sun light
2) easier to match color should the need to touch up in event of body damage
3) light colors help to reveal the subtle body design architecture
4) ages well by reducing color fade
5) choices for interior colors expanded

Pearl White's are very very hard to match (Subaru/Lexus/Acura), and usually discolor from being painted on metal vs plastic. Silver/Gray is very hard to match and easy to spot from far away because of how different the slightest shade looks when light hits it. Plain white is easy and metallic colors/flake are easy too, the painter just has to add the correct amount of flake.

I have owned many white cars over the years. My wife’s current Jaguar is metallic white, which I actually like quite a bit.
When I buy a Porsche, I tend to gravitate towards colors that are unusual but not obnoxious. My 991 is Mahogany Brown Metallic. My 997 was Macadamia Brown Metallic, and my 996 was Midnight Blue Metallic.

..they both look beautiful. Rear fender contour more visible on the red one; due to model diff or lighting?

Yup, agreed. After I got mine, I plastic-dipped the rear valence and swapped the model emblem from silver to black, to provide a bit more contrast (as compared to the pic in post #15 / #58).
