Porsche still doing ED, or permanently cancelled?

Timing might just be a tiny bit off. We are dropping off our GT3T on the 6th - likely around 11 AM in Sindelfingen. After we drop the car off we plan to walk to the Boblingen train station (about 1.8 KM) and halfway between is the Motorworld museum. Will likely spend a couple hours at Motorworld before taking the train into Stuttgart to catch the connecting train to Frankfurt.
I’m going to rent a car at Enterprise, 10 min walk from Simovic. Drop at FRA. $219 CDN all-in. I had a booking with Europcar but was told they are closing the office in June due to labour shortage. Europcar was practically next door to Simovic.
Primary driver for renting a car is travelling with my mom, who maybe wouldn’t do well maneuvering around train stations with her bag and would take longer.

Dodo, don't bother talking to your sales person. Instead, email European Delivery directly at Porsche North America -
European.Delivery@porsche.us Joey Bolton-Rogers, Special Delivery Programs Manager
Last I spoke with Joey, Zuffenhausen was booked through November, and Leipzig through October. He will want to know your commission number and can tell you about the next available known date and the likelihood of availabillity if you get on a wait list.

Thanks guys. On one hand, I’d really like to do Euro Delivery (although my scheduled production is Nov/Dec when it’s cold). On the other hand, I don’t want to **** off / go behind my reps back since he’s selling me a GT3 @ MSRP.

That pricing question is one that seems to vary by region and country. I live in Canada near Ottawa and I bought a new CGTS 4.0 at a 2% discount off MSRP on August 4, 2021, with no admin fees or any of the extra crap they try to add on. I later decided that I wanted to do the Euro Delivery, which costs the dealer money, for some reason, and the dealer agreed to it but kindly asked for his discount back. So, I ended up agreeing to a deal at MSRP that includes ED. In fact, we leave Sunday and pick the car up in Stuttgart on June 23rd. We are pretty pumped about that!
I see on here regularly that dealers are asking for sometimes as much as $20000 ADM, which I would just never pay. This is on top of the already healthy margins they make... We could argue this all day, regarding supply & demand, etc. You do you; I'll do me.
Regarding actually booking the ED, it was super easy. Just tick the box on the configurator and it becomes part of your Porsche code. Porsche has an ED Department that helps you arrange your trip and even has a few suggested routes or themes. As far as I know (there may be extras that I don't know about yet?), ED includes one night stay in a choice of a few hotels, a couple of taxi chits, factory delivery, a factory tour, lunch, self guided tour of the museum, a full tank of gas, license plates and insurance for up to 16 days. Extra insurance is available for extra cost. We are going for 16 days, but only have the car for 13.
At the end of your trip, you bring the car back to their shipping location in Sindlefingen (very close to Stuttgart) and drop it off. If you do not end back where you started, you can drop it off at several other places around Europe for additional fees.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

While I would definitely be totally confident dropping off my car at the factory, I think the truth is that there is likely very little difference between dropping off in Leipzig and dropping off in Sindelfingen. In neither case do they put any visqueen back on the car nor do they block the suspension the way cars are prepped by the factory for shipment. They process many cars through Sindelfingen for Porsche nearly every day. I would be nervous about my "baby" no matter how I shipped it home but I honestly believe that there is very little difference between any of the Porsche drop off locations from the perspective of care and safety of the car during shipment.

36 hours to departure and I am starting to get nervous about domestic flight delays and the weather in Europe. We have 4 days in Paris before taking the train to Stuttgart, but the weather forecast shows lots of rain in both France and Germany for the next 10 days. My domestic flights have shown multiple delays and cancellations on FlightAware over the past few days (either due to weather or to crew shortages). Probably worried about nothing, but would have been happier with clear weather everywhere!
On the other hand .... starting to feel a little like Christmas morning is just a few days out! Hard to believe I first received my allocation and started configuring this car last February .... 16 months ago!! Really looking forward to meeting this new baby in Stuttgart next week!

Driving is certainly an easy path for return from Stuttgart to Frankfurt. I doubt it will save you much (if any) time but it should definitely be less strenuous from the perspective of hauling your luggage around. Particularly if you pick up and drop off your mom appropriately. As I recall, your timing is rather tight in terms of the Black Forest drives and other aspects of your trip. I don't believe that renting a car in Sindelfingen and dropping it off in Frankfurt at the airport should add any delay to your trip and will be physically less stressful as long as you can drop your mom of at the terminal to sit with your luggage while your take care of the car return and paperwork paperwork at the return site.
I did have a compact schedule, 5 nights, 6 days. 2 in Stuttgart, 1 in Andermatt and rest in Lucerne. 6th day is basically travel day, car drop and off to FRA with our flight home in the early evening. I’ll post up a thread perhaps next week with some thoughts on my trip. I think timing has been decent, doesn’t feel pressured or quick in most respects. Did MB and Porsche Museum, factory tour, Porsche lunch, Baden Baden, Black Forest Baden Baden to Freudenstadt, did a hike to a waterfall along the way as well. Saw Hohenzollern castle on the way to Switzerland. Did 4 alpine passes in both directions for all with plenty of stops, Rhone Glacier site and a lunch at a restaurant on the Sustenpasse. then drove to Lucerne.

I don’t think it’ll be much time savings if any as you say, more about easiest transportation in our situation. The rental area and car pickup area are quite a hike from where you clear customs, which itself is a distance from the gate. Air Canada, so share Lufthansa gates. She did the whole walk though without much issue, slower than me of course but completed nonetheless. Not to mention the 35 C degree temps in Stuttgart this past Sunday and Monday. Remembering the AC situation in Europe can be weak and spotty. The airport was humid and stale, along with Porsche Museum and anything Porsche along with the hotel. The delivery person offered that it was worse the day before in the delivery area. Porsche has an environmental initiative to keep their facilities a few degrees warmer than usual (don’t recall exact number), including the factory. Definitely noticeable coming from the ice boxes we keep as our facilities in summer time.

I was blown away with delivery day, just exceeded all my expectations. Porsche did a fantastic job. I woke up on delivery day to the sounds of rain on the hotel room window. however it cleared before we headed to Werk 1. Today it rained off/on….rained in parts of one direction on the Susten/Grimsel/Furka and was dry most of the way back. Fortunately roads were 90% free and clear on all 3 main passes. Unencumbered sweet driving.
The tour was very interesting from a Porsche, seeing my models and manufacturing POV. there was a “prototype” making it’s way through the 718/911 line. So we had to delay entry and stop short of a couple areas at different points as the car made it’s way through. A phone call had to be made before we entered after the Taycan line tour to ensure the car was not visible from the starting point.
You’re right, nothing you can do about weather. Other than adapt to it and not let it get in the way. Did I mention the weak AC? Or maybe I’m just too used to 20 C temps inside. I think I had in my head that Porsche facilities would be nice in cool here in Germany. Interesting the many environmental pursuits Germany is taking. Had a good long chat with my delivery consultant about things other than cars….haha.

Well gents, 16 days later with 16 cities, 3 countries (Germany, Switzerland, Italy), and 2100+ miles of driving bittersweet to say my euro delivery has concluded
Picked up my Cayenne Turbo at Zuffenhausen on 6/10, and dropped off in Sindelfingen to Sal on 6/26 (Sal is a rockstar)
Factory tour was amazing, you see Taycan assembly line then 718/911 assembly line. Personally I would have preferred just to see and spend more time with the 718/911 side, and back in 2018 they showed you the engine assembly too but now do not do that any more.. VIP Lunch at the casino overlooking the Porscheplatz was incredible, same for Christophorus for dinner on top of the museum and even the coffee/pastries you get while you wait for delivery in the morning
Biggest surprise: most common car I saw on campus, on the factory lines, parked around the area.... 718 GT4RS!
As alluded to, did not get the complementary navigation I requested but no big deal with CarPlay and Apple Maps
Now time to wait and see if I racked up any speeding tickets via camera and for her journey back to the US. Compared to 2018 when I did ED with my GT3, it was a bit less stressful and really nice to have the space, comfort, and size of the Cayenne as we saw everything from severe rain near the Alps to scoring hot temps on tiny backroads with lots of debris/rocks etc...

Did mostly the same loop I did back in 2018 because it was so fun and diverse, but it's really hard to go wrong with a car in Europe. Stuttgart through Switzerland to Northern Italy to Central Italy, then back up the coast to Alba, back to Switzerland, back to Stuttgart for me
If I get the chance to go a 3rd time down the road, will take a different itinerary for sure!

Beautiful Cayenne and photos as always :-)
Right behind you, leaving an a couple weeks, just finished booking everything yesterday.
Coincidentally the Macan came home yesterday 👍.
Not doing much touring, just two weeks at the Ring with a couple day trips to go see family.
GT4 still shows pickup date Sept 28..
Maybe I can make it 4 in a row if I can pickup the RS before the end of the year..
Estimated completion in November!
