Sean, yes Gimp has layers, you have to use layers, there isn't a choice really. I put everything pretty much in it's own layer so I can move it, change it, what ever. I have a ton of layers in mine.
Here is a great tutoral, this guy has like 4~6 videos. http://members.iracing.com/jforum/po...t/3199988.page
I will look for that reference RUF paint scheme I have it some place but its out in their forum some place.
Jim, I'm doing the painting on my Macbook Air, but I will check that out as I'm painting in the 2048 size.
Yes the more I paint, the more I learn: the more layers, the better.
Stripes on their own layers from the solid colors, decals/logos on their own layers, etc.

Yeah I'm still learning this paint thing. I'm using Gimp and have created a number of my own layers, but still trying to figure out some of IRacing's layers. Gimp doesn't seem to label the parts very well.
While not exactly "difficult" - it's amazing how much time it takes to do even a somewhat simple scheme.
I don't know WHY they laid out the paint templates the way they did. The door handles and door handle "pockets" are all upside down and scaled up juuuuust slightly larger than the hole in the door skin, so if you have a logo or pattern that passes over the door handles, it's a PAIN to get them all lined up. The "Rt-12" logo on the rear bumper is drawn in the template at 196% scaling - they shrink it down when it gets rendered on the bumper. So anything you put on the bumper has to be scaled UP 196% and also placed where the "Rt-12" logo is... and good luck getting it all aligned. The inside edges of the fenders are all upside-down and backwards....
I'm up for a session tonight. Here is highres versions of the Car of Shame. Will run it tonight.
Makes a huge difference with the 2048x2048 in iRacing. So if I have 2gig on the video card how high should I set the GPU settings to in iRacing?
Oh, loaded it up on to TradingPaints.com if anyone or the next guy needs it :-) Search "Rennlist Car of Shame".
I have the XFX ADM Radeon HD7870 with 2gig of mem. I upped it to like 1256mb and holy crap I have been missing a lot. But the fps dropped into the 60s. I also have 8gig of mem in the computer.
I just need to talk Jim into coming over and help tune the system :-)
I changed next week's start to a rolling start. I think launching on a bank might cause too much mayhem. No update till after our race, so get used to what we have now and practice up.

Send me your specs again and a screenshot of your settings in both iRacing and the Catalyst Control Center.
