Question A few AiM Race Studio questions

Hi Folks, new to the forum, and trying to improve the usefulness of my AiM Solo (nonDL/OBD1).

2 quick questions about Race Studio 2.

1) I've seen a bunch of online videos and docs on Race Studio. What's the 'go to' resource for a beginner?

2) I'm considering writing a script to pull AiM data into video for Linux. If you're a fellow Linux user, don't get too excited, I'm not a programmer and at best it'll be a very basic buggy script and platform dependent. To that end, below is one my of channel views. I thought 'time from beginning' was the real time and date of the start of the recording. But mine doesn't seem to be that (00:01:31), thoughts?

If the seminars are convenient (or even if they're not), this is a FANTASTIC resource.

Peter and Bill covered the video part. James Colburn has some nice videos and I've started doing a few, but need to still make more.

For the time from the beginning, you want the lap manager tab at the bottom of the screen. The first time is the start of the session, then the rest are the time from that beginning time.

For further explanation, it's the time from "start logging" (triggered conditionally, by speed/RPM or both) to the first beacon (either infrared or GPS coordinates, the latter if using a GPS antenna) trigger.

Thanks for all the fantastic help folks! I'm already learning some helpful details from the videos.

I'm still confused about my 'time from beginning' first row saying 00:01:31...I'll double check my clock settings. Literally read, that's 1min 31 sec after midnight, right? Now I am known to have a few beers or some bourbon after a good day at the track, but I don't remember running with my headlights on.

Looks like my clock was set incorrectly. I'd argue the labeling of the clock in the solo is confusing, if not incorrect. The only option is to set time to "GMT". I was assuming that the unit would then know where it's at via GPS time, and adjust from that. In reality, I set time to my local time (even though it says GMT), and that's what works.

Another rookie question.
Maps. I'm confused, but here's what I think is going on. There seems to be 3 'types' and 2 software packages to manage them.

GPSManager: Mostly to copy maps to/from computer and Solo, and to provide an easy way to set the start/finish line.

RaceAnalysis 'Map Manager': Here's where I set up track sections, and define turns and straights. Helps to analyze splits. But definitely NOT the same map as created and used in GPSManager.

Race Analysis 'GPS': Shows heat diagram of results to analyze one of the channels in a graphical form. Again, not the same as the above 2.

Is that about right? Do I have to 'manage' all these track types independently for any one track? Or, is there a way to create a 'master' view and create the other types from one?

GPS time = GMT. It can't derive time zones for you.

Agreed.
But it would be fairly trivial for the device to derive local time based on GPS location. Many other devices do this.

Bluntly, the menu should allow user to choose one of GPS time or put in local time, which could be GMT +/- delta.

Or, allow the AiM analysis software derive local time based on user input.

Not a big deal, but that's the point.

FYI, the current version of RS2 does NOT provide (real) time/date of each session. However....
I sent AiM an email a few weeks ago about how to get date/time info for a specific session.
Fast forward a few weeks and a handful of emails, and they send me a new executable with a software mod to provide exactly what I want.

WOW!!

I expect it'll be in the next release!

I did not expect that level of support. Good group of folks at AiM!

I haven't seen anything in the development software that I have, but some things go straight to production.

Nice you got the info you were looking for.
