Garmin Catalyst Technical "Hacks"

Truly a small world. My wife and I live in Bath during the summer and I run a ferry in Boothbay Harbor a few days a week. Her family has been here since the Mayflower and we have family scattered all across the area including Five Islands. We will definitely get together.

I have cameras and S2DL in stock along with all of the mounts and appropriate cables. Just let me know how I can help.
You've probably seen me messing around on the wake of the ferry (assuming it's decent size). My friend who got me into all this has a house on Westport Island. They've had it a long time, but not Mayflower long.

I'm going to work with your WGI data to be sure it's going to fit my needs. I really like the work I did with the Catalyst FIT files, specifically related to in-depth corner analysis. I broke the biggest corners into pieces using distance and then analyzed each piece. For example, at Sebring in Turn 17 I know how long I'm taking and my vMin/vMax in sections like "Flag Station to Asphalt Patch", "Asphalt Patch to Blue Dot", "Blue Dot to Exit", etc. In Turn 1 I know the same data for "Bridge to End of Wall", "End of Wall to Apex", "Apex to Exit Curb", etc. I did all of this because knowing my time in those turns didn't really help since they're so big. Then looking at the results over hundreds of laps and correlating everything to overall turn duration helped a lot. I don't have the same level of sectioning at WGI because I did not have a Catalyst last time I visited there in August. But I think I can fabricate the same type of analysis using your data if it's available. A brief look at Race Studio 2 & 3 seems like I can get the data out and the do the "hundred laps" comparison. FWIW, I use SQL Server for the heavy lifting.

Ah, that was you???? We have a lot of folks play around the boat. It's the ferry that runs people out to Cabbage Island Clambakes. Big and slow with 180 passengers.

If you want some more data, just let me know. It sounds like much of what you are doing is similar to what Thijs and I did in the "Corner by Numbers" webinar. Looking at hundreds of laps at once in RS3A would be less than ideal, but looking at multiple sessions works great. The profile shared in that session is great and really lets you get down to the details of foot level control inputs.

Let me know if there is a different style of csv export you need. It's something I've worked with and the team at AiM is always interested in different takes on data and supporting users.

Still struggling a bit with RS3, which is to be expected with any new software with such an extensive feature list. I tried importing the sample profile that came with the webinar but my version of RS3 (3.59.15) does not have a "Load Profile" option. I can save, just not load. And making no progress on exporting data. It seems this is done via RS2A? When I try to import the data from the webinar into RS2A nothing shows up ion the "test database". I've tried looking through the documentation and FAQs but no help.

Matt, your "Corner by Numbers" webinar was eye opening. It looks like this (AiM/RS3) is the right tool for me. I wish I had started with this rather than the Catalyst but at the time I didn't even know the right questions let alone the right answers.

Check out the screen shot for importing profiles. If you have more trouble, feel free to post or give me a call. The shop is 603-232-9096 and I can walk you through anything. We can do a screen share if we need to as well. AiM is often better at creating and improving than documenting, but Roger has gone a long way with the webinars and James Colburn has some great shorter format videos on a lot of topics.
In general, you don't need RS2 for anything. RS3 is much better in every way and will give you many more options in viewing data. I haven't used RS2A for anything in probably 3 years (prior to the public release of RS3A).

Not knowing what you want until you've found what you don't want is par for the course! It always takes some trying and learning before honing in on the best thing.

That worked perfectly, thank you. Hours of searching replaced by 10 seconds with your help.
Exporting gives me the following message:

I always (half) joke that I can usually save a lot of frustration and time if people ask how to do things early.
I have never seen that screen before. I would try rebooting the computer and see what happens then.
I think what you really want is a csv export, not a file export. Then you can export a csv or other file type.
You want to do the batch export
Then pick the file format

Success!
Now trying to make sense of the CSV data. All three CSV files (RS2Analysis/SCCA/FastLap) contain "Beacon Marker" which I assume identifies Segments but I can't find any documentation on any of those formats. And it is odd that Lap# is not in any of the files.
Will get it figured out. Thank you for all of the help.

Quick update.
I have given up on the Catalyst for analytics. The loss of the FIT files can't be overcome.
My efforts with the AiM Solo DL data have yielded extraordinary results. The new analyses produce everything we could get from the Catalyst PLUS the addition of OBD information (throttle, brake, steering, G-force, etc.). Many thanks to Matt and Coach.

I have advanced race coach feedback running to a wired headset while racing. The information has been extremely effective, delivered at the correct time and helps keep me focused. What I am unclear about is if this audio is saved to the files, and if so, can it be heard again with downloaded saved sessions. I would really like to hear the advice again by watching my videos. Anyone have information on this?

Wow. What a thread. I found this out while looking for ways to backup and export Garmin Catalyst data. I even re-enabled my old Rennlist account I created in 2014, when I driving my 997 GT3.
As a software developer for the last 30 years, and an AI expert (thus a data lover) for the last 20 years, I really relate with the work Igusto did. I m also trying to improve my driving on Sebring and studying all the data collection options.
Sorry for bumping in such an old thread. I just wanted to show how much I appreciate all of this discussions and also how impressed and humbled I am with the knowledge, eloquence and politeness of all the people discussing here.
Congrats!!!
