Starting a PDM32 in my 996 race car, When I built the car 7 years ago I installed an ISIS power pdm because it was a flood car and the oem harness was toast, along with a Trackmate dash. I decided to upgrade the PDM along with the dash as the cost of the full pdm and the premade harness is only about a grand more than a basic aim dash. If you are familiar with a RS3 the configuration learning curve is not that bad.

I would consider mounting that unit with the connectors downwards - benefits would include: 1) cable path towards floor for lower COG and cleaner routing, 2) a bit more protection for the individual connectors from spray, 3) easier viewing of the status LEDs. Looks like you are on track to do a great job either way though!

The stock dash will be refitted over the unit with access from the airbag cover, The more I get into the programming the more impressed I am with the unit. If you can think of something you want it to do you can probably find a way to do it. I am using a Cartek wireless steering wheel control and most of the functions in the car can be controlled with those buttons. A good example is Traction control on /off, you need to send a twelve-volt signal over two wires one wire for off and one for on. By configuring one button for a short press for off and a long press for on you can send the signal over one wire with the short press or the other with the long press, and the correct Icon can be shown on the dash when traction control is off.

If your not familiar with Aim RS3 big learning curve there, Also you have to understand how the 996 is wired, about 30 pins for the ABS alone. When I first wired the car I used the stock dash, this time I am eliminating that completely, saves about another 30 wires. The ecu is probably the easiest to wire, 4 power wires and some outputs to control the fuel pump and fans .Also I sent the ECU to ECU doctors and had them bypass the Security lockout so no security module in the car, that eliminates a lot of wires
Thanks, I'm good with RS3. The interdependence of modules and dash etc... is what I'm working to better understand now in an effort to make something like ABS can maintain a happy state of function when complete.
Just about done and I should be ready to install the dash soon. The biggest thing still left is calibrating the fuel level sensor, there is a good writeup on the AIM website on how to figure the step down resistor and creating a new sensor to set the calibration, I usually set the values by filling the tank one gallon at a time and recording the resistance numbers.
Also have to tie up some loose ends
Eight button can switch, I am using the bottom buttons for the Aim dash functions.
The largest project was the ABS/ Traction control. I found the easiest way to manage the harness was to cut it and install a bulkhead connector and to pin it out from there. Traction controll On-Off and fault light all display as Icons on the Aim dash, its realy trick.
I still have to finish configuring the dash and fab up a bracket. Also have to relabel the steering wheel buttons
