Default tire temps

Are there solutions for getting real time tire temps in the car while driving?

Thanks,

Several. From inexpensive IR sensors to a small console box in the driver's view (no logging or recording, just a readout) like these for bikes: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/...CABEgLzXvD_BwE use two, to single multi-band IR sensors on each corner that are connected to a logger (AiM, VBOX, MoTeC) , about $360/corner plus cables for readout and logging to multi sensor strips for each tire.

I have several folks that added simple individual analog sensors (one per corner) to keep track of balance issues and overheating in general for less than $100 per sensor plus patch cables and the sensors themselves connect to an existing AiM logger.

I've sold Texense strips for big GT cars, but they're around $1080 each corner plus the wiring harness. Just about everything in between. For those with VBOX HD2's, I can provide a complete kit with harness and setup for $2560, 16 temp readings per tire! Crazy.

I posted about them in this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/data-acq...-sale-now.html and https://rennlist.com/forums/racing-a...temp-data.html

The data is really great and when coupled with the TPMS setup, can tell you a TON on how you are using your tires. Plus, you'll have more data than some tire companies!

Like Peter said, there are a number of companies that make sensors. I think the AiM are the best value and the Texense the most accurate in larger operating conditions. There was an interesting article recently that said the current F1 tire has a very, very small operating window for temps and that some of the teams have failed in measuring them accurately and subsequently created poor sim models.

I've done a lot of these sensors and setups - post up if you need anything, have questions, or don't understand the setup at all. If you use the CAN sensors, it can get a bit more complicated and not all folks are well versed in CAN setups. I've done a number and can tell you the pitfalls before you start.

I ran the enduro at IGT at Mid Ohio. I usually start my tires at 21/20/21/22 from left front ccwto right front. I usually end up at around 30 which is my target. But that is after a cool down lap and sometimes after scales. At the enduro i checked pressures coming in hot and they were much more like 32/33 and the car felt very pushy. when i lowered them back down to 30 the car was handling significantly better. On the 2nd pit stop they were up to 31/32 again...lowered to 30 and they were much better. the point is I'm not sure what is really going on temperatures wise with the data I have.

It sounds like you need a TPMS setup more than tire temps. I have few thread, but one here https://rennlist.com/forums/data-acq...for-225-a.html It's $225 and has a CAN out put that can go to AiM, MoTeC, Cosworth, and other data systems with a CAN input. That thread has a great explanation of the data you can collect and how to use it to evaluate performance.

Yes, Matt’s inexpensive TPMS solution is your best money spent right now.

But the tire pressures and the balance issue points to the front doing a disproportionate amount of the work. Until you make a setup change to balance the car better, I would not expect a change in this condition.

M-O is notorious for super high FL wear, too.
