Ultimate or Porter?
I need a need orbital buffer. I have read a few threads but wanted to find out what you all thought is a better deal between the Porter Cable 7424 or the Ultimate Detailing Machine?
Any good websites with a package deal for light swirl removale for pads, polish and a buffer?
thanks! Mike

I debated this exact purchase.....I've used the porter cable in the past & it just doesn't have enough power and shakes ALOT.....the cyclo is better, but does cost more....I haven't used an UDM.... After some serious thought I bought a high speed rotary (Makita)......& will use it at lower speeds (it drops to 600rpm) carefully to polish or apply waxes....then I have the power to correct just about anything with the right pads and products!

The cyclo is way more expensive and I do not think I will ever use it enough to justify the cost. I'd think for the very minor swirls on my Porsche and the more major ones on my black X5 that my wife takes through the car wash either the Porter or Ultimate would do the job just fine.
Anyone here used both of these machines?

How does the Griots polisher rank? The body looks like a Portor Cable with a different hand grip plus they claim it has more power. Would the Griot's one be a good choice?

I've been using the UDM and gave it a shot and I'm not really in love with it so DD will be sticking with the PC for now.
Let me know if you guys need the PC I'm running a special.

I've used the Griot's version once. I liked the fact that it has a dust trap, it feels more stirtdy than the PC, and it has less vibration. I was impressed. I'd need to use it more to give a thumbs up or thumbs down.

I am going to get a PC or Griot's version. Griots should be having some Holiday sales soon!
I need to get a orbitar buffer and a good swirl removing kit. Wifey has run the black BMW X5 through some automatic car washes....yikes....she knows better not to do this with the Porsche!

I've used the PC many times and currently own the Griots, prefer the Griots for all the reasons mentioned by MoeMistry.

HELP!!!!
Well I am now thoroughly confused! I have been all over various detailing websites and it seems like a lot of people on Autopia and Autogeek love the Ultimate Detailing Machine. I was all set on the Griot's and noticed you have to use Griot's pads...you are stuck with those it seems like. What if Griot's stops making these pads then the buffer is useless?!?!?!
Everyone on the other sites claims the PC bogs down and does not have the proper power that the UDM has but some of you here say the opposite.
Autopia gave me a 20% off the UDM getting it down to $119. Pretty good deal? They also have deals on Sonus polishes. Are these good?

You can use any pads you like on the Griots Orbital. The kit includes a hook type attachment which (velcro) can be used with Meguiars, Griots and any other major vendors.
Not familiar with the UDM or Sonus but I'm sure others here have experience and can provide feedback.
