Odd Sound - 2021 GTS
Hi All,
For those with a 2021 GTS; I have a 2021 Cayenne GTS out on a weekend test drive. Aside from (to me) an obnoxious louder than I'd like V8 throaty exhaust "rumble" every time I leave a stoplight, I've noticed that when cruising slowly up a quiet street at around 23 mph, if I rest my foot on the gas (pressing lightly to maintain speed or increase speed a bit) I hear a faint "scraping" or "rubbing" sound coming from I'm not sure where. I think its coming from the transmission area or maybe farther back - a faint sound of the fuel pump? - if that part runs when you step on the gas and stops when you take your foot off (I doubt it operates that way). It's very strange. Has anyone else noticed the noise or is it unique to the unit I'm testing? I can open this up to other 2021 Cayenne owners if you've experience the same.

Thanks for checking. It's a strange sound, only with light throttle and most noticeable at 29 - 30 mph. Almost a whine, which I usually would associate with gear meshing noise, that stops when the force of the engine is applied to the gears and then when you take your foot off the pedal the force stops pressing the gears together and the noise stops. Anyway, I have to decide whether this is the right model for me, then I'll ask the dealer to look into it.
Honestly, if the V8 exhaust rumble I hear when moving off from a stop was quieter and the steering effort was a bit lighter, I'd give the GTS a 10/10. But many people like the exhaust noise (thankfully it is non existent at cruise - any speed) and the steering effort is a personal thing. I guess being north of 60 years old has something to do with my preferences.

Because you can hear almost all of them and for a number of years on previous generations (958) they were failing left and right and ended up being recalled and the warranty extended something like 10 years. If your Cayenne has PDCC, that pump/system also makes some noise even when the car is going straight.

Good news: Porsche replaced the hydraulic PDCC with a 48 volt electric PDCC in the new 9Y0 generation. The new system should operate silently and (hopefully) require less maintenance; time will tell. Additionally, it has faster response and doesn’t sap engine power from the always-on hydraulic pump used by the 958. The new system allows the Cayenne to corner flat up to 0.8 lateral G’s.

The GTS is by far the sportiest Cayenne. The Turbo, while it has more HP, has a softer suspension tune and less throaty exhaust. If you want a calmer Cayenne, perhaps check out the S or the Turbo, either side of the GTS.
BTW, I'm 67 and love the exhaust sound in my '21 GTS. My wife (she drives a Macan S) says "How can you get my Porsche to sound like that?" Answer "You can't". I have a '21 Carrera S Cab with Sport Exhaust and on its best day with the button pushed to engage, it doesn't sound as sweet as the GTS.
Porsches alway make little funky noises, all of them. For quiet, you want a Lexus or any electric care (Maybe a Taycan Cross?). For lighter steering the Rear Wheel Steering I have on both my 992 and GTS is magnificent.

I have a 2019 Panamera GTS, and was thinking of selling my wife's Macan Turbo to get the new Cayenne coupe GTS.
Does anyone know if the Cayenne GTS is louder than the Pano GTS??
I love the sound, but wife probably not as much.
