I bough a base with a MSRP of $84K. My wife drives the car 80% and the base motor is solid. Its a significant upgrade from a power standpoint from our 2017. I wanted an S, but for our purposes, I couldn't justify the additional 18 - 20K.

Also have a base spec at about $84k. No regrets at all!

Base model here. Thinking about a JB4 piggyback for less than 600 bucks.

We came from a 958 S model. The new base is roughly as capable as the old S and better than the old base. The new 8 speed is much, much smoother and programmed better. Shifts are quick and sometimes not noticeable. Also kick-down is more intuitive so all of this equals better performance. Interestingly as the prices have gone up (as expected) so a lot of the new S models on the dealer lots don't have a lot of options to keep the costs down. The non-all leather interiors feel cheap. Two-tone in non-leather does not line up the color change at the inside B-pillar like the leather one does (not sure why). We're happy with the base - for now.

What are the basic differences between Base and the S model, besides the engine ?

Better brakes, tuned suspension, quad exhaust tips, nicer alloy wheels.

The quad exhaust can be purchased in the aftermarket cheap and they look good. I don't need any more suspension or brakes so the power is really the only thing I'm looking at and hoping the JB4 will close that gap by 60 or 70%. The level one setting adds 5 lbs of boost and there are a couple more aggressive settings. I know a guy who uses one on a GLC AMG43 and that thing rocks, made a big difference for him.

I'm thinking that brakes would be different too, since they are definitely different on the 911s. Unique exhaust tips and wheels don't really interest me. You can order a lot of different wheels on the base already.

Now on the suspension, do you know this for sure that the shock/spring rates are different With the extra power potential with the S model, you don't want to have more power than the chassis can control, I get that. So braking power and suspension.

I wonder about the xfer case, differentials, and transmission.

The brakes and suspension on the S are the same as the base. You do get PASM included as standard on the S but can option that on a base to even that out. Exhaust difference is cosmetic only (true sports exhaust is an option on both) and again can be optioned on a base should one desire. In other words, the only thing on an S that you cannot get on a base is the engine.

Nope, you got this wrong.
Cayenne S brakes.
Front rotors (d/w) 390mm/38mm
Six-piston calipers front, four-piston rears.

Cayenne Base brakes
Front rotors (d/w) 350mm/34mm
Four-piston calipers front, two-piston rears.

PASM is also tuned differently on the “S” in sport mode.

Apologize, I stand corrected. Thank you for the info and clarification. Can you explain in what way PASM is tuned different?

Valve tuning is different in sport mode, it’s a 100hp+ engine and a slightly heavier car.
Said that, my wife’s Base is plenty capable. For the money, I’d take it over the S any day. Huge difference with the Base 958.
