Anyone ordered base and wish had ordered S engine?

The engines are almost the same. The stroke shortened to reduce it from 3.0 liters to 2.9 liters and more robust bearings are used in the S. The Base has a single turbocharger and the S has dual turbocharger.

Are they using the same engine block, bore spacing, 7 main bearing crankshaft, timing chain layout, heads, and most importantly, cylinder composition and finish ? I can't find any information on the engine family, the way Porsche used to showcase the 996 and 997 M96 M97 engines themselves.

I have a base with air PASM and PDCC. Air suspension on 19s is fantastic - and the chassis control w PDCC is out of this world. I don't feel the need for the S motor, the base engine can still hustle.

Glad to hear this. Driving for me is largely about the handling and I think the way you can customize the base with PASM, PDCC etc is much more important than going 1s faster to 60/100 at least for me. Now if there were some substantial chassis and/or suspension differences, that’s a different story. Base, while not a light car, is also lightest in the range. I also like driving a slower car faster as opposed to a fast car slower especially considering traffic and speed limits. Only reason I’m even considering a turbo is the rawness of the V8 and engine sounds, etc. I’ve ruled out the S as a result after driving base, S and turbo back to back. The base left me wanting little. Of course, if you’re into straight line acceleration, the S and above will likely be your flavour.

I think that the answer to your question is "Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes."

Wish there was someone here who was using the JB4 on a Gen III Cayenne Base. Oh well, looks like I'll just go ahead an be the guinea pig. 5 lbs of boost should be a noticeable bump on a base '19/'20 Cayenne.

Aside from the engine question, air and PASM is the way to go. We have this and the vehicle is smooth as anything this side of an old Citroen, but PASM keeps it level in the turns. All leather and air suspension are the two best options on the 9Y0 aside from anything else being considered. Problem is, other than special order, go try to find one....

Lived with a base for a month while Macan Turbo engine getting rebuilt. Personally I wasn’t satisfied with base engine power. Ordered S with lots of options including air suspension, chrono etc. Month in I’m very happy with performance. Fully tested it after just getting back from 6 hour road trip.

I ordered a new 2019 Cayenne S in the beginning of Feb so I could option up the car with the goodies I wanted! Honesty after driving numerous base Cayenne's with 335HP engine loaners etc.. I can say without a doubt I would've been unhappy and wished I ordered the S engine! It's 100HP more than the base and the car in my opinion just feels more like a Porsche should! My wife wanted me to order the Base and we had a few disagreements over the extra premium the engine costs but I know I would have regretted it and would've wanted the S for sure! Car does 0-60 with sport chrono in 4.2 seconds as tested by C/D magazine and crashes the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds!! This is a fast car and you feel it also the base engine is acceptable but definitely not fun like an s with 434hp!!
