Diesel=win.
I agree 100%, the Cayenne/Touareg TDI's tow incredibly well.
If anything, the adds a lot of wind drag but not too-too much weight.
Still, the truck is more than up to it.
I had bought a 2012 Touareg TDI. I had no idea how it would tow my boat but I was thrilled the following April of 2014 when I had found out how good the platform tows.

Nice setup and sled. I was a Yammy guy too (SRX, RX-1, Vector & Apex) til a couple years ago, when I had to give it up. Too much hard riding messed up my kidneys. When you **** blood after riding, you need to reconsider. I miss it still.

I can truly understand the "missing it" part. I have been looking forward to riding since last winter as the chance to both snowbike and snowmobile is just so, much, fun.
I had gotten a chance to ride an RX-1 way back when they had come out and was impressed with the way the entire machine ran. The wife's 900 four stroke motor is all I need, and then some as the 900, even though it is brand new, has that four stroke power that is just so much easy-fun. Smooooooth. Stuff is just so good nowadays.

The blind spot monitoring doesn't know how large the object is being dragged behind you. They're only measuring for the size of the Cayenne. With it enabled you'd merge into traffic, assuming it's clear, and punt them with your trailer. Ford now has blind spot monitoring with a trailer, but you have to input the dimensions of your trailer.

That's not correct.

That's how it works in my 2013 too. The annoying thing is that it does not turn back on once the trailer is no longer attached.

What do you tow? I have not seen a towing thread anywhere on either of the Cayenne forums so I'll start this one as I've been waiting to tow my boat before I did.
I have this 6,500lb boat/trailer.

I towed it home from where it stays for the winter and my 2016 CD towed it every bit as good as the 2012 Touareg TDI I had(and am just waiting for VW to buy it back):

I will admit though, I do like the Cayenne a LOT better. I did average 15.9 mpg which is better than the TDI did at 13.5 mpg-both based on the onboard computers.
This past winter, I had this stuff on the back:

Back in 2013, I had a Tundra access cab. My wife and I had our daughter behind her or in the middle of the back seat rear-facing as she was only 2 years old, and my son was forward facing behind me. As she was squished in her seat as the seat needed to be slid forward, as soon as she said, "This is the last time I can ever ride like this in the truck." I knew that I needed a new tow vehicle as even if the kids got older, the space in an access cab just doesn't cut it for kids or adults. I had a G8 GT at the time and realized that I have to go down to one vehicle. I had already traded in a Corvette for the G8 GT and I thought I'd keep the Corvette forever as I loved it and do miss it.
I considered every tow vehicle out there but settled on a 2012 Touareg TDI after a test drive. I had considered a 958 but was not hot on how it looked, especially the rear. Now with a 2016 CD, I'm in heaven and have the best of all worlds as I'm over my fast-car phase as I got a dual-sport bike to commute with and the CD is my tow vehicle, rainy-day, winter-beater as well as family-truckster.
Many are amazed at what the CD and the TDI can tow. Post up your pics of your 958 getting it done and having much fun.

Normally, the boat would have been up here by early April but COVID had delayed things a bit. The good news is that the weather has been lousy the past few months with wind and cool temps for all of April and this past month of May. I got down to where the boat stays in the winter, got the cover off, loaded it up with all the boat crap and towed it home.
I should have but did not check the tire pressures on the trailer but I still got 13 mpg for the 110 mile tow home-very rarely going over 65 mpg, and had gotten almost 29 mpg on the highway ride down. The CD is a phenomenal tow vehicle and highway cruiser.

on the CAT scales
A CAT scale was nearby so I decided to get some new weights. TV had full tank of fuel and the 2 of us and the cat. Tow bar stayed on the TV. Here are the results:
Front axle Rear axle Trailer
Unhitched 2820 2740 6020
Hitched w/o WD 2620 3560 5380
Hitched with WD 2820 3300 5460
GAWR's are 3042 3417 6200
