What do you tow? (958 Pic-thread)

I have a 2019 Cayenne Turbo with a nice option spec. However the one thing that wasn't optioned was the tow package.
Has anyone had any experience with towing something beefy without the factory tow package and just using aftermarket approach through various upgrades?
Really want to be able to use my current Porsche as the tow vehicle because of how nice it is compared to a truck or more "suitable" vehicle.

Without the factory tow module you will loose some features like disabling blind spot monitoring, display in dash when trailer lights are working, ability to use factory brake wiring, and most importantly the electronic anti-sway feature that uses the ABS system to prevent violent trailer sway. If you will only be towing short distances, I wouldn't see a real issue but for any serious towing I'd retrofit the factory tow module. There are some posts on here about doing that.

Yes. I added an after factory tow kit to my 2012 & towed my gt3 for 4 years no issues...until the suspension & transfer case went out. So I just upgraded to a 2017 with a tow hitch. I actually think the V8 was a little better.

Aftermarket involves slicing into wiring and, as mentioned above, does not give you any of the useful electronic changes when towing.
If you are going to go to the effort, go OEM. It will work better for you, and will not be a potential liability when you go to sell...

Have a similar setup, pulling a 2700lb race car inside the 3000lb enclosed trailer with my GTS. Tows like a dream. The key is leveling the trailer and staying under 600lbs max hitch weight. I use a simple hydraulic tongue weight scale, like this
Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale - 2,000-lb Capacity Sherline Tongue Weight Scale 5780
Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale - 2,000-lb Capacity Sherline Tongue Weight Scale 5780
Figured I would follow up on my post #4,... since I've switched from a open trailer to enclosed.
This was on our way back from Asheville NC Treffen. Pulled wonderfully. All aluminum except the frame (weighs 3,500 lbs).
Did a CatScale before we left & with everything loaded (trailer, 911, 2 spare trailer tires, & tools) we were at 6,800 lbs.
CTT pulled it easily. My personal opinion is that the PDCC has a lot to do with it. Air suspension might help a little too.
We also run a "weigh-safe" hitch which has the built-in gauge to show my exact tongue weight. Love it.

Trailers come in handy
Neighbor dropped a couple of oak trees...the wood is going into my wood shed and eventually into the stove...
Normally this little trailer is set up to tote fat tire bikes or sea kayaks.
I haven't checked the actual measurements, but I think it would also make a fabulous autocross trailer!

We tow our boat. Have to get one of those things that quiets the hitch. Having always towed with a truck, I never realized how much noise the hitch actually makes going down the road over bumps. Kind of scared me at first. Pulled over and checked everything. All good and tight.

Not to mention, you can rent uhaul trailers for as little as $15/day with no mileage charges.

Utility trailer for dump and Home Depot runs. Who needs a truck?

Truth is...I could walk up and down my street and have my pick of Chevy and Ford and Dodge pick up trucks. Lots in the neighborhood and neighbors are all friendly. Interestingly, nobody has asked to borrow the Cayenne to make a Starbucks or Whole Foods or REI run.
