Default Center console grab handle storage

Found these online and ordered them TWO MONTHS ago. They just came today. Do not expect fast shipping from China.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs...728982548.html

Here's a video clip of them:

They fit pretty well. Took me a few turns of them to figure out which was left/right but eventually I got it. Likewise they come with some rubber strips that fit in the bottom. They're covered in a felt flocking kind of material so I'm not sure how necessary the mats are, and those also took some head-scratching to figure out how which side they went on.

Now I have a place for my reading glasses to sit quietly instead of rattling around in the cupholder.

It's not quite square or deep enough to securely fit my S7 phone but it does work, in a pinch. A smaller phone might slip right into it.

The reading glasses stay put during 'spirited' driving and don't make a rattling noise like they did spinning around in the cupholder. A lifetime of glasses, then 5 years free of them thanks to Lasik... and now reading glasses. It's annoying but I'm holding out against bifocals...

Not sure if I'll keep both of them installed as I'd rather avoid more places for junk to collect. But I am considering using 3D scanner to build a mesh for potential future modeling. It's a really oddball shape.

And speaking of odd, curious the factory service docs refer to the storage under the armrest as the "oddments" tray. In the '17 it seems a lot less deep than from previous years.

Y'all don't have the glasses holder in the roof? I'd use that for my cell phone, just need to find them for the 955.

Not on the 958 - I think Porsche was tired of fixing the roof console so they eliminated that and any sliding buttons on the 958.

The glasses holder is under the front seat and that's where the sunglasses get stored. But for aging eyes the reading glasses need to be a bit more handy. There's some aftermarket accessories to replace the grab handle above the door with a fold-down pocket. But as yet there's not a decently priced one for the Cayenne's handle. The handle is wider and uses a different shape than anything else (trapezoidal not just a rectangular U shape like previous models).

I found one vendor online that wants $140 for just ONE. Whereas for anything else on the road they're around $15 (including for other Porsche years). I'm aware there's a price premuim... but I ain't payin' THAT much.

where does one store their loose change? Would these be a good alternative to the cupholders? Or would they get to heavy and slip through?

I hate loose change rattling around. I use one of these:

I use both inserts for the grab handles as well as a tray I had purchased for the armrest. Both are made by a company called Salusy and purchased through Amazon. The fit is absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, while the grab handle inserts are still available, it appears the armrest insert is nowhere to be found on Amazon any longer. That's too bad because it basically allowed our small armrest to become a two tiered storage compartment.

Here's a picture of the grab handle inserts and the now unavailable armrest insert:

I gave it a shot and ordered one. I'll report back once it arrives.

Vendors are obligated to crack down on improper use of trademarks, so you can't really fault Porsche for likely objecting to stuff like that using their logo. I'm with you, if they offered one I'd likely consider it.

To follow up, I did order one and it fits nicely. Decent material. No excessive off-gassing smell. Shipping was, well, slow boat from China and all that...

From what I understand the center console in the 2017 and 2018 is different than that of the 2011-2016 years. 2019 being different too.

Mine arrived the other day and I was pleasantly surprised. They were well packed and have a nice feel with a soft-touch finish. There are also a couple of drain holes in the bottom - not sure if they're by design or part of the mfg process but they are there. As noted above, they don't hold much but my cellphone can now go there instead of flopping around in the cupholder area.

I ordered mine off eBay on 12/28 and received them on 1/11 so not too bad actually. All in all it's a decent enhancement for under $15.
