Default Diesel Fuel Filter

Hello,
Does the FF need to be replaced, reading here it is maintenance free?

Porsche Cayenne Diesel Service Intervals | Rancho Cucamonga ^ (porscheriverside.com)

If thats the case, why are there so many Mann/Mahle FF filters on sale on ebay

Thanks

Do you need the Porsche computer as stated here:

Diesel: Change/Drain Fuel Filter - 6SpeedOnline - Porsche Forum and Luxury Car Resource

This guy seemed to do it without one :-)

Thanks

Diesel fuel is dirty stuff. You absolutely want to change the fuel filter at the recommended interval. Less if you get any indications that it may be compromised.

It's easy to do and inexpensive.

I change my fuel filter every other year, about 14,000 miles. It's cheap and easy to do and no computer required except to reset the service reminder. As an aside UK/European diesel is much cleaner than most found in the USA.

Changed mine over the weekend. Some liquid moly additive in the reservoir or I just left it empty and it cranked for 3 seconds and was fine

I change mine every other oil change, or about 10k miles. Cheap insurance, IMO, for a very expensive fuel system. I top off the reservoir with diesel purge after installing the new filter. You can prime the system with an inexpensive reader such as an icarsoft (what I use) or cycle the key to on a few times to purge the system. Some say you do not have to do any of this, i do not know. I bought the icarsoft so I can reset the maintenance reminders, may as well use it to purge the fuel system too.

You can buy diesel to fill the filter, but I have had excellent results using Liqui Moly Diesel Purge Fuel Additive MOL-LM2005. One can just about fills the filter canister, some people over in Audi/VW land buy another to put in the tank. The 3 second crank is OK but if you have a PIWIS/Launch/Foxwell its better to run the system purge function THEN do the 3 second crank. Let it run for 30-60 seconds after that, turn off. Then drive as normal.

Pro tip: DO siphon out the existing fuel in the canister after removing the old one, then do a really good wipe with a lint-free heavy duty shop towel of the canister. Like really clean it out good. Moisture sits there, as does random crud and worse. PO didn't clean when he did the filter 15k miles before, and there were little bits of dirt and a lining of filth on the canister walls even though the old filter wasn't too gray. Startup clatter sound has softened considerably since I did that, and the engine runs yet smoother.

Also, I've personally found that most dealer sites for various brands service intervals are just plain wrong. Mazda, Mini, BMW, Porsche... - all the dealer-maintained sites seem to be incomplete, whereas checking the manual or better yet a shop guide (or a PDF from a shop guide) is far better factory information for a given vehicle.

The fuel system is self bleeding, whenever you open the driver's door the fuel pump runs to prime the system.

Interesting there is no mention to replace the fuel filter as part of the service!

Hello,
part numbers for filter if anyone is interested.

MAHLE KX341
MANN PU8007
HENGST E431KP

Do people normally replace the lid rubber seal?, as the filters don't come with one.
If so anyone know the p/n please.

Thanks
