Default 958 Pano roof cable

Hi all I have just found out my Pano roof is buggered due to having one of the cables kinked due to lack of lubrication.
I have been told by a Porsche Specialist that they do not repair only replace at cost of £3k est. so a new Pano roof.
I have found the parts 2for €69.92 (https://teile.com/en/porsche-parts-s...th-cable/68450)
My question is anyone had success in changing out Pano parts? does anyone have any manuals showing what is required?
I cant justify the cost of £3k so looking for alternative options.

Default 958 Pano roof cable

Hi Sorry if I am duplicating as I made a post but cannot find it.
Has anyone had any experience in Panoramic roof repair.
I have been told by a Porsche specialist that the cable in my Pano roof is Kinked and thus my roof will not operate, they are telling me that they and Porsche do not carry out repairs they will only replace it.
This has been quoted at £3K, I can find the parts for €70 so it seems a huge price difference.
Does anyone have experience in stripping and replacing Pano parts?
Does anyone have a the Service manual so I can see what is involved?
Thank you for you

r support...

I haven't done this on a Cayenne but did work on a MBZ with a pano roof. What are the symptoms?
If the roof works the same as the MBZ then replacing the cable will require a lot of work; headliner, glass, etc. Looking back, I would have preferred to just replace the entire cartridge (maybe a used one that I could rebuild on a bench).

Hi welcome to the forums. I think you're going to be a perfect candidate for an AllData subscription. From my understanding, this is a big job. You're going to have to drop the headliner and dismantle that thing so ya gotta be handy.

Members could try to explain what is involved if you can find one that's done this, but it won't replicate you reading what's actually involved, looking at the tools required and seeing the labor hours that it would normally take. That stuff can be found is AllData. It's the best way to start looking to see if it's a DIY for you.

Keep up posted. Join the Forums and become a member too.

Hi JRoach for the response, The Pano will only lift on one side vertically and will not slide back, Late last year it was slow to operate but did work.

Bennb229, for myself, I would find it kind of fun. It took me days to get it working well again but I'm slow. I looked for videos that might talk about the 958 pano but nothing, I'm sure you know that.

I would also take a look at the motor where the gear meets the cable (the MBZ was a worm like drive). The roof not being able to move easily caused the gear and cable to fail. Root cause was still the dirty rails but for me, the motor/gear also need to be replaced. Sorry...it's not very happy news.

The MBZ pano roof was made by Webasto. It might help to add that to your search terms...they make sunroofs for Kia's to Mercedes.

Curious, was your car parked outside? I'm wondering if its environmental (dust/dirt) or maintenance related (is there something that is not being checked on regular service).
We haven't had an issue but we rarely use it (once a year, maybe). The roof should have hundreds of cycles (open/closes) in it so I'd be curious what your feedback is on the root cause.

One more thought, this forum has the "how to" on removing the headliner. I looked at this for doing some drain maint on the roof but found workarounds plus I got stuck on the first steps (removing the seatbelt .

One last thought... I've heard/read somewhere along the way that an autobody collision/repair shop understand how the headliner and roof are setup and could possibly do it for less than a dealer. Maybe they could remove the headliner and let you repair the roof once removed. Best of luck with this and keep us posted.

J,
Ours is starting to make a popping sound when retracting. While I haven't started on it yet, I looked on eBay and found one for sale.
2012 Pano Sunroof eBay
I have no intentions of buying a used one, but the pictures give an idea of what is under there.

Bennb,
It might be easier to pick one thread and stick to it ... at least for this old man.
I'm with RAudi, a subscription to AllDataDIY.com would be money well spent.
I found 2 sections that will get you started.
WM 708419 Removing and installing headliner
WM 600619 Removing and installing roof assembly (panorama roof)

Maybe the eBay pictures I referenced on your other thread will help as you read through the instructions.
While I don't think you have to remove the sunroof unit unit, here are several links at the end of WM600619 to follow.
You may have to retrain once you install the new cables.

Please keep us posted.
Mike

Yes parked outside on my driveway but not an overly dirty of dusty area I live in. No extreme temp. I use a Porsche specialist to carry out my servicing and I do feel that maybe this item was not lubricated as per Porsche recommendations. But no good moaning about the past need to move forward.
