Default 2014 GTS - high mileage experience

First time Porsche owner here. I have had my eyes on the naturally aspirated GTS and finally pulled the trigger on one - a red 2014 with 104k miles. Mileage was a little higher than I wanted, but it was the exact spec I wanted and seemingly maintained well - it is in great condition and I have the last 4yrs of maintenance records. I'm typically a Lexus guy (I like reliability), but I'm taking a shot with this GTS. You only live once, right? My plan is to update you guys on my experience, because honestly, I'm wondering how reliable this Cayenne will be. I'm hoping for the best, because it's fun to drive, sounds amazing, and is just a great looking car. The only big ticket item in the maintenance record is the replacement of the high pressure pump at 77k miles, the rest is typical scheduled maintenance at the Porsche dealership. So here's to hoping there isn't a transfer case issue or coolant pipe issue in the near future.

Congrats - I have a 14 GTS with 97k miles and it has been super reliable. I bought it with 27k on it in 2016 - I love it and have had nothing major go wrong. I’m planning on keeping mine long term since I think it looks better than anything new and it runs great.

Welcome! I suspect your ownership experience will depend on your tolerance for tinkering with things or your access to a good independent shop (or an unlimited bankroll to pay the dealer). Those coolant pipes will probably need attention eventually. Change the transfer case fluid if you can't find a record of it recently. What's upstairs on the lift? I can't quite make out the taillight pattern.

Awesome to see others snapping up high mile V8 GTS’. I acquired mine a few months back with 163k miles and I’ve put 2k miles on it since.

i love driving it, it feels special in the way the new Macan and Cayenne dont - they feel sterile (but much faster) by comparison.

Of course I’m biased but I think the 958 will go down as one of the greats, the last NA motors used in some variants and pre-Audi motors.

Damn you are driving your GTS a lot man lol. 70k miles in 4 years. I did that with my previous car the X5 but trying to keep my mileage per year a little lower on my GTS. So far about 20k miles in 18 months.

OP: I considered a Carmine GTS but damn that one looks nice!

Yeah I cover most of Texas for my sales job so I get a lot of windshield time on the highways and byways of this great state. Of course, since Feb, I think I've done 800 miles total. Just came off CPO and I thought about moving on to something newer with warranty coverage but I feel pretty good about keeping this one and driving the heck out of it.

Ok, here is my roughly 1 year update -

Unfortunately due to the pandemic I haven't driven much, only about 5k miles in 12 months. I say unfortunately because this thing is wonderful to drive. I just took it to my local Porsche indy shop for an oil change and inspection and everything checked out. Currently mileage is ~110k. I'm hoping to put more miles on it his year! I'll keep everyone up to date!

Congrats on joining the 958 V8 family !

You have an extended Transfer Case warranty so you'll have peace of mind. The coverage is 10 yrs from the day it was first registered or 125K miles. My 2013 Cayenne S has 108K now and drives like it did when it had 1/2 the miles .

The only downside is that I have yet to get more than 7K miles on a set of 21 inch tires. Doesn't seem to matter what brand. Small price to pay for how well this behemoth handles and stops.

Enjoy it !

Love the color! Going to look at a '13 GTS with about 74k miles..listed for $36k...seems to be an OK deal. I'm a bit weary about getting a used car with high mileage but after doing some research here I don't feel as worried anymore. Oddly enough I was originally shopping for the Lexus model in your garage, the GX.

I picked up a 2011 CTT back in January. 90k miles, one meticulous owner and $26k. Got a fresh transfer case just after I acquired it. Didn't expect to, but I genuinely love this pig. Especially after I threw a tune at it. I've put about 3k miles on it already, which is pretty high for me already. Love taking it on day trips or just for hiking. I can understand why the PO put so many miles on it. Perfect complement to my E92 M3 when I want more theater.
