If youre referring to the "MOST" digital fiber optic output then yes. It has a direct output from the back of the radio and comes with the required adapter to plug right in. In this video at 2:35 the guy talks about the port.

Not at all, ive done it probably a dozen times since i bought the car. Small but longish flat head, do the bottom inner clips first while pulling on the bottom of the vent. My passenger side vent comes out completely with just that one clip undone, my driverside needs the out bottom clip as well but then it just pops out.

It's not too bad if you take your time. Get a set of these cheap stereo tools:
Amazon Amazon

And then it's pretty easy:

Those would definitely make things a lot easier and probably a bit faster as well

No sir. Actually you have the potential to gain functionality. In stock configuration the proximity sensor system appears as an overlay to the back up camera. With this head unit you have the ability to setup a 360 degree, overhead view as seen at 1:41 in this video.

I wish those other headunits didnt use android. It would be nice for more carplay options.

Every android head unit has the option for carplay. It just requires an "inline dongle" and an app installed on the head unit itself, really simple process. I used this one

https://www.amazon.com/Mirroring-Smartphone-Receiver-Navigation-Multimedia/dp/B07MZSL84F/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=android+auto+dongle&qid=1576679211&sr=8-3 https://www.amazon.com/Mirroring-Smartphone-Receiver-Navigation-Multimedia/dp/B07MZSL84F/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=android+auto+dongle&qid=1576679211&sr=8-3

works 100% flawlessly with my head unit and phone.

Would love to see one of these large screen units roll out wireless carplay/android auto support. I have to imagine it's hopefully only a matter of time.

I have my unit running android auto on a daily basis. Just requires that dongle that I wrote about 2 posts back

Thanks for sharing this @tmckenna . My next project on this car, but will wait for the price to come down a bit on this. At $1k a bit too much.
Personally I love the look and gives the interior a nice update.
Just want to re-ask a question, aside from the delay in startup of the device, any other drawbacks compared to OEM?

So after about a week and a half, Im actually even happier than I was initially with the radio.

Part of it was working out little kinks, most of which were my fault. Accidentally turned off the parking sensor display, couldnt get maps to work properly through android auto but it was a battery saving setting in my phone that messed with gps, etc.

Part of this has to do with the android auto dongle that i purchased that works absolutely flawlessly. I keep the dongle in my center console plugged into the "bulkhead" usb input and run the standard cable to my phone. Radio boots up, I open the app and within seconds the android auto interface is open and functional, every single time.

Part of it also has to do with trying out, and surprisingly succeeding with crazy and mostly unnecessary ideas. Like plugging in a 2tb external hard drive and having the radio see it and play a movie from it. Or using a Travel (doesnt require AC power) USB to run the android auto dongle and external hard drive at the same time. Ive always been a bit of a "super user" (term they use in the android world) so its cool to be able to mess with that kind of stuff in my car a little bit.

Ultimately besides the boot up up time I still havent seen any downsides really. The one notable thing I would mention, which is part of the booting process, is that the rear view camera can act a little weird when the unit hasnt fully booted up. The camera will still display and function mostly normal, but for some reason you dont get the parking sensor overlay and the camera tends to flicker a bit. I just use this as an excuse to let the car warm up a bit (its cold in new york these days) and after a few seconds everything functions completely normally.

Highly Recommend the upgrade to anybody.

tmckenna: Curious if you got the 1gb or 2gb RAM model? I suspect the 2gb, but I would think that would help with startup times.

Also, in the case of the Bose/Burmester systems, this isn't being used as an amplifier, correct?
