Here's my solution to the same problem.

I am pretty sure I'm going to switch to the TESLA style screen at some point - but this is what I have going in the meantime.

Let's be honest here, is that really a solution....?? If you are happy with that, that's all that matters.

Keep us posted. I'm was thinking of going with the other solution with a smaller screen but if I'm going aftermarket, might as well get the larger screen.

Of course man, anytime. I come from the "classic" audi world and I know how much I appreciate having somewhat of a walkthrough to reference while doing projects. I try to be as productive on here as possible because its such a good forum.

I think my reservation with the smaller screen was that it appeared to be running an older, or possibly just uglier interface. It seemed much less OEM, in terms of software and functionality, than the larger screen.

I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to modernize my CDR31 (non-nav) system to one which has CarPlay, so I've been following this thread with interest. One of the options I'm looking at is an oversize screen and will actually block a section of the air-vents. This is the one I'm considering;

When I pick my car up next week, I'm taking it to the local audio shop (Music Car Northwest) who have one, and we're going to place it against the dash and see how much it obscures the vents. I really like the size of the unit, so unless it's horribly ugly or covers most of the vents and makes them useless, I'm leaning towards getting it done. I'll post up the photos next week showing the unit against the dash for size comparison.

Aftermarket universal head units like that are tough to get to work properly in these cars. They dont dont the proper mounting mechanism and also most models use fiber optic audio output so the factory amp becomes useless, and thats where it gets really dicey.

Agreed 100%. I talked to the installer for some time on this, and there is a kit by naviplus (https://www.naviplus.online/online-s...unit-p82980319) for making the Bose system work with aftermarket HU's, so that's the option I'm going to run with if I do it. Regarding the mounting mechanism, this unit has a lot of adjustability and sits proud of the dash. I'll have a better feel for it when I see it up against the dashboard, but overall I love how big it is, and the fact it's from a brand I've had in the past too.

I posted this in my 'new owner and highest mile GTS' update thread, but below are the template photos of the unit I'm leaning towards. I'll also install a rear view camera, possibly upgrade the amp and tweeters also (just depends on what the total bill will be!). It's obviously a bit larger than the opening, but not obnoxiously so.

How did you accomplish split screen?
It's only been one day but so far I've found my $800 tesla style vertical screen to be a step down from the $300 android head unit in my 955 in some ways. The FM reception in this one kicks *** compared to 955 Android unit though.

What fakra video connector did you purchase to see out of the factory backup camera?

Is there a way to send information to the instrument cluster like the factory style map and speed limit displays?

Default Hello

Hi guys.

Just subscribing to the thread. I think this is really neat upgrade which might also be helpful when selling the car. The buyer is in for a surprise. I’m keeping my eyes on this for sure. Has anyone near Chicago done this where I can see this in person?

please continue to update the thread. Thank you.

I can answer my own question here. No purchase necessary. Unlike the 955 the rear cam footage is not carried via fakra its just via a couple of wires in the harness. You take the yellow male rca of the android T-harness and plug it into the yellow female rca of the CCD attachment shipped with head unit

Has anyone figured out a way to get the little map on the cluster to work with one of these?
