It’s not foolproof, but works in this scenario:
  • disabled BT AUX on PCM
  • paired iPhone to PCM
  • connect to carplay (I’m using wireless, but works wired too)
  • receive call —> click to answer from steering wheel button (connects phone audio from pcm and uses integrated mic/speakers, but shows call details on carplay screen).
  • If I tap the answer button on screen from carplay, phone audio will default to carplay (but can be switched to pcm via Bluetooth button on phone screen)

Mine switches to PCM for phone calls as the BT device, so I haven’t heard of any complaints for calls yet.

There was some config I had to do at first to get it to default this way..can’t recall exactly what it was, since that was about 6 months ago. Haven’t had to make any other tweaks since then.
Agree! Much better and fuss free to use PCM for calls. Don't care much for hearing audio for map navigation coming off the phone.

Also finally figured out today how to make screen dark when in maps. Put phone in dark mode.

Thanks for all the info! I am also not sooo super keen on installing a 2nd mic in the car, so good to the hear about the setting to switch to the PCM system automatically for phone calls.
Are there any issues with the new IOS 14?
After 2 years of watching this thread - I finally plan to get Nick's CarPlay set. 🤗

I’d still install the second mic. It’s needed for Siri and can work as a backup since it’s not a foolproof system.

was on beta for months and didn’t have any issues then and haven’t had any since general availability.

Agree! I would install mic also as backup. I actually had a situation.... the center roof panel was out of the car (fixing some rattling and used some epoxy to fill holes so the clips sit strong. Anyway..... no PCM mic present, so I used the JoyAuto mic. Wasn't great sound, but worked.

Does anyone know why my phone doesn’t auto connect wirelessly? I keep having to go into Bluetooth and clicking on joyeauto to get it to start.

Kinda. Android 11 broke some stuff that used to work but I believe the autostart was a bug (according to google) and it's been removed or some crap like that. (all the threads on that are from late last year)
I can't make heads or tails of it. There's an Android auto forum on the google support pages and one on Reddit. After reading those two boards I'm almost surprised anything works.
All I know if I have a Pixel 4 XL, With Android 11, and for some reason, I have to plug mine in to work but my wife's 3-year-old Samsung works fine.
Google "Android Auto not starting automatically" tons of threads.
Good luck!

Speaking of bugs, has anyone had their DVD changer quit after installing the AA mod? I get a message on the screen that says CD changer not latched or something to that effect. My changer used to work but it too my son to notice it doesn't anymore.
Can't seem to find anything meaningful in search. I'm wondering if I pinched the cable.
I took it apart once and reseated it, same problem.

Pretty sure my son's works, I'll ask him when he gets home tonight. If it does, I'll get his phone and IOS version for you to compare.

Do you have the CarPlay switch turned to “on” in the Bluetooth device setting? It’s on the screen that you would go to if you were going to “forget” a Bluetooth device. If it’s on, try turning it off, then back on.
