Default Porsche Cayenne Headlight theft?

Not sure why this popped up on my news feed, or whether to simply be amused or concerned.

Thieves have been stealing Cayenne headlights in Russia because they can be lifted in about 10 second each:

Apparently it ain't just happening in Russia... my brother in LA had the headlights stolen out of his 2006 911 4S Cab last year in the middle of the night, and it was NOT cheap to replace! At least the thieves were kind enough to not knick the paint when they pulled them out...

I saw this a few weeks ago, and kinda shrugged it off as not-958 problems. I really hope I'm right.

Well sh*t.

Good instructional video though. I hope the thieves come around with some if the blue painters tape.

Porsche should have made the locking mechanisms lock in from the front direction rather than from the rear as it would be a lot harder to have to hook that bar and pull it than to push it.

I believe the mechanism locks to the rear since the lock is supposed to pull the light in place..

Yup, you're right. This is the passenger side clip in its released, folded forward position.

So how does shoving that flat bar in there from the front get it to release.

Watched a video on the 958 and unfortunately it also uses the same mechanism, which also releases the same way so if that works on a 957, it's probably going to work on a 958 too (it's the same mechanism on my 997 too).

so, this is a bit concerning yes?
sounds like this is happening on 2019+ models as well

well its so they do not set off the alarm until they are ready to go.
this is a pretty annoying issue / engineering failure

Looks like the 9Y0 has the same issue too. Found a link for simple possible solution

I'd be more worried about the damage done as they fail to get the lights if this is done.. continues prying / bending / slips with screwdrivers, etc.

not doing anything invites repeat theft.
if you get hit once & get it all fixed up, your thief might just come back again & again & again

There was a big T-top theft issue back in the day. How did they solve it? Insurance companies would only pay for new T-tops from the dealer causing the used T-top market to collapse.

Doing the screw mod is definitely going to result in more damage, but that also means the thieves taking more time. Maybe if they burn too much time, they've eventually get caught. What we need is a small clear vinyl label that says "these headlights are no longer removable". Or find a way to use a steel cable so when they try to jerk them out at the end they don't actually come out and instead damage the headlight - be even better if it activated a shotgun shell blast out the hole - I'd rather have them be damaged and useless than for them to get away with something they could sell since insurance is buying new ones anyway.

That's been so for many years. In Russia if you have Cayenne and dont want your lights stolen, you have to buy a anti-theft kit
