Next-gen Cayenne?

Crossover.
If you compare this to a Panamera you will see a big difference in the nose. It's much bigger than the sedan and the vehicles sits much higher (much more space between tire and fender lip).

I like the stance, but it's foreshortened by the camera. I'd like to see a clear profile. I've never needed the full height to the tail for cargo, but see that a fastback is problematic for those needing a full roof rack.

Why build a competitor to cars that didn't sell well?
That's sort of rhetorical. I hope Porsche doesn't go the route of BMW who now makes a plethora of mediocre models with one designed for any desire or lifestyle. It has to make support a nightmare.

This is supposedly just a test mule for the mission-e powertrain

There was a video some months back showing a tour of Porsche's storage facility. Lots of test mules and other prototypes. Many times one body style was used to test the drive train for something completely different. Given the deadline of no ICE sales in Germany by 2030, it's not surprising to see all kinds of body styles being used to test electric platforms.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Based on that "Shock warning" sticker on the front my guess is they are also testing a Tesla-rivalling powertrain. I don't mind hybrid tech, but an all-electric Porsche is not that appealing to me..
On the bright side, I've heard the V8 is making a comeback on the next-gen Cayenne GTS
