Default Front seatback repair revisited.

I know this has been posted about but I can't find the thread I previously read to reply to so I'm startin' a new one.

I recently purchased an '06 CS Tit and the passenger seatback had already fallen off. I used 3M trim adhesive and tilted the seatback against the rear seat hard and let it set overnight. That was about a week ago and it is holding strong. The other day the driver seat does the same thing, but this one had a repair attempted before. It had some thick rubbery stuff on it that just peeled off (one also had a velcro strip). Again with the 3M adhesive and it is all good. Now, I don't let this car sit outside in the hot south Texas sun all day, but it still gets plenty hot in our garage (pretty much whatever the outside temp is) so I think this is a pretty easy, at least semi-permanent, fix.

This happened to mine in California. The 3 pads had broke loose along with the bottom retainers. I ignored the bottom problem . I took the seat and put gorilla double back tape all the way around staying inboard about a sixteenth of an inch so it wouldn't show. I then smeared the 3 top pads with Gorilla construction adhesive and pushed it back in place and put 2 bungee cords around it for 24 hours. That was 3 months ago and in 112 degree heat in Redding Cal it hasn't come close to coming back off.

I drilled some holes in the tabs where they attach to the seat backs and smothered them in gorilla glue, also holding them I place until they dried. Been 4 yrs in the Texas heat and no problems. Just as strong as day one.

My drivers seat back fell off today, Hot Florida Sun. Used some Gorilla glue and a couple of Bungie cords wrapped around the seat until it drys. I guess this is a common issue as the glue appears to last around 10 years. I am sure the passenger seat back is not too far behind.

Default Fixed with Zip Ties and 3M tape

My '06 Cayenne driver seat back fell off this summer. I tried all sorts of glues to repair the broken bottom plastic clips, but they all failed. Spray adhesive for the top 3 glue points didn't hold either. I found this idea on another forum and it's worked so far!

I drilled holes (9/64" bit) in each side of the remaining plastic clips.

Used zip ties through the drilled holes and the center hole of the metal plate where the clips used to sit. After making sure the bottom "fabric" sides were attached to the seat, I used 2 zip ties per hole. The 1st from drilled hole to metal, the 2nd on the opposite side of the metal and back to the 1st zip tie... which acted as an anchor holding the back loosely in place as I worked on the other 3. Slowly tightened the zip ties until all were tight and bottom of back was in place.

Next I took 3M adhesive tape for moulding and covered the surface of all 3 top plastic pieces where the glue had failed (mine were in place and intact). Peeled the red backing and pressed the back into place.

I leaned the seat all the way back for about an hour so the backseat pressed on the 3M tape area.

Even if the tape eventually fails, the bottom clip area isn't going to drop out of place anytime soon! Hope this helps someone!

I 3D printed more robust bottom clips and re-attached the upper 3 clips with GE Silicone Caulking, Ain't going nowhere now:

Let the wife use the car for one day and this happens
First thought is "what did she do"
After reading it seems parking out in the hot sun this will happen eventually and I'm usually in a garage so in a way it was her fault.

Anyway good to read about the previous fixes, seems straight forward. thanks again Rennlist

^ The upper 3 snap clips came unglued from the backing panel. Use the GE Silicone Caulking pictured above.... nothing else works better.

What a timely topic...its been over 100 here in Texas for several days straight and what would you know? My drivers seat backed popped off. I first tried Gorilla Glue on the pads and a bungie cord around it. That lasted 24 hours. I then went with velcro on the pads and rather than leaning the seat back, I folded over the back seat and pushed my seat back to it. That seemed to work after 12 hours of having the seat back. The clips at the bottom just broke off, really scratching my head as to why they used plastic parts down there.

Had my drivers side fell off in the spring and just drove it for about 6 months until the other one started falling off. Ordered industrial strength velcro, gorilla glued to the 3 pads and put a long strip on the top portion of the back. let dry for an hour or so and you will be good to go. Easy and it works!!!
