I just installed that unit in ours a couple months ago Zakowsky. It works well. Like others have stated, I think the Secaine MOST adapter creates a little line noise when it’s on but at rest, but it seems to go away when you’re actually playing something. Haven’t figured out a way to do an AUX connection yet but haven’t spent much time on it since I got it up and running. Bluetooth has been fine for music so far. I’m going to install a hotspot dongle to my car from my mobile carrier to start streaming directly from the unit. Hope it works well. The install was pretty straight forward with the help of this thread, and everything worked out of the box as far as steering wheel controls, etc... For the price, it is a great option.

I recall you said it was a Dicola, wasn't sure if it was this exact one - thanks. Would be interesting to compare to the one Misc3r said they were installing, with the Cortex-A53 cpu. I'm also thinking the line noise, no matter how slight, might really bother me, so I'm tempted to try and get the 4 channel Russian MOST adaptor, but I am also watching for a 6-channel amp to just replace the whole MOST system with.

Edit - I am also just realizing there is no difference between the ones that say 9" versus the 8" inch ones; it's just whether or not they include the side buttons when they measure or not....

Long time lurker, pameperd myself with a 2007 CTT (2nd one after a 2004 unit some years ago) and deciding yet to pull the trigger on the PCM 2.1 upgrade thing... meanwhile, I stumbled upon this this 4 channel RCA to MOST adapter. Seems to me that the android head unit is becoming more or less expendable and the crucial bit is the MOST adapter... this one is quite pricey, but appears to be german made.

Nice find! I wish that was available before I went through the hellish situation with Seicane. I would have given them the finger in a heartbeat. I still think the Seicane unit has the best look as far as the trim and integration of the screen with the dash/console. Every single person who has seen it has been shocked that it was not factory. The other android units look aftermarket to my eyes and the screen is a bit smaller. You may not even notice or care, but thought I would mention if that part matters to you.

Thanks for pointing that out nodoors; I was wrong about the 8" versus 9", on closer examination there is in fact a difference as you say. So now I am setting my sights on a 9" 4G/32G PX5 8 core with Android 8.0.

But after reading this whole thread again and looking at Aliexpress, I am still unclear on the user interfaces. So Android 8.0 has the new plain colored tiles, like Windows 10 style right? I personally really don't like it, especially that big task bar on the left. Can you install a launcher on these units that over rides this and let you customize it? The other thing that is confusing is there are several Cayenne units that say they are Android 6.0 but they have the same tile based interface. So is the tile style launcher part of the manufactures firmware that is overlaid on Android 6.0? Or are those pictures just wrong? I imagine this could be dealt with by rooting and flashing, but it would be nice to know I could just install a launcher. On xda it seems like people are trying to hack the firmware on the new units, but it is not quite there yet.

Hi...
my name is Andy from Germany... i am new here and i read your posts from your Cayenne "coo coo camera" make it works with a Seicane Android Radio... see page 15 in this thread...
So i have the same problem... the Idea with a relay helps me a lot, but now i have the problem, that there is no picture... i cut the blue wire and put it to ground, the cam pops out... thats fine, but i see no picture in my headunit (it is the 9" Model)

Today i checked my cam outside of my car and it works, so my cam is ok! But why is no picture at my headunit??

In my unit there is a "reverse" and "cam power" wire... what can i do with these wires??

Thanks for help and sorry for my bad english...

Best Regards
Andy

I just installed my Android yesterday and I've got a couple of questions:

1. How do you change the temp readout from C to F?
2. I'm planning to use dropsync to load movies/music when it pulls into the garage. What size/brand memory stick do you guys recommend? I've heard that shutdown can be configured on a delay to allow time to sync, where is that setting?
3. Anyone know of a written procedure to remove the changer?
cheers,
c

I installed mine a couple weeks ago, overall very happy with the unit but have one big problem and a few small ones.

I went with this one:
Link

-#1 issue is that it refuses to play nicely with the hotspot on my iPhone X. I can get it to see the network and save it, but after that it loses connection and will not connect. I have tried all the basic fixes one would normally do--forget connection and re-pair, reset iphone, reset headunit, etc. When I first installed it I was able to connect to my home's wifi which seemed fine but without internet on the go none of the things I really want to use are available-Waze, Spotify, Pandora, Escort app. I guess I can use their 3G dongle but that would be super slow and I am not even sure if it could power waze. I could let the unit download songs to Spotify when connected to my house Wifi and get around it but if it can't get high enough speeds for Waze one of my major uses will not work. Also, with my phone plan I get 15gb a month on the hotspot so I'd rather it just use that and not pay for another service.
-Would another hotspot work?

-I am getting a "android.microtek.canbus error" periodically, and by periodically the error show up on the screen every two minutes. It says to check the log but I am an Android noob and don't even really know where to go from there. What is this?

-The torque app connected to the bluetooth OBD reader works great and I am very happy with that. How do you make it so that it starts up at vehicle startup? I'd like to use the trip computer functionality and don't want to have to start the app manually every time. I read that you have to put a widget on the home screen but again, I am a noob at android so when I tried that it went away after I shut the car down. Also, no oil temp off the OBD reader? Don't see trans temp being outputted either. Not a huge deal but I like to keep an eye on oil temp as the car warms up so I know when I can start to open it up.

-I also would like to change the temp from Celsius to Fahrenheit and don't see a way to do that in the settings.

Kraeburn,
I have the same unit, from the same vendor.

1. I have so far been unable to connect the unit to internet via my phone while on the road (wifi in the garage works great). I'm going to stop by Verizon today to try to confirm that this function is working correctly on my phone at-least.

2. Yes, same intermittant canbus error. It's only on the screen for a moment so it took me a while before I was able to read it, and I finally got a picture of it yesterday. The full message reads: "Developer warning for package "android.microntek.canbus" Failed to post notification on channel "null" See log for more details"

3. I tried to use my icarscan bluetooth OBD reader with Torque, it doesn't recognize it. I don't know at this point if it works with EZscan or not, I haven't installed it yet. Which OBD dongle is working with Torque for you?

4. Have not found a way to change temp readout, but since mine appears to say "-49.5c" which is -57F, not sure if it matters.

cheers,
c

Thanks for the updates on the newer models; this will help those still deciding which to buy.

For the wifi problem, a few possibilities are your phone is using 5GHz for the hotspot, as these units only detect 2.4 GHz. The other possibility is your home wifi is a much stronger signal; there have been reports of weak antennas on these HU's and/or poor soldering jobs.If you want a lot to read these issues are covered in the generic PX5 MTCD threads on xda,

https://forum.xda-developers.com/and...hread-t3734189

for Android 8.0, or

https://forum.xda-developers.com/and...hread-t3573881

which is for 6.0, but covers a lot of hardware issues that might be the same.

I stopped by Verizon today to see if my phone is sharing its hotspot correctly over bluetooth. It is. They connected it to a couple of different things in the store, no problem. I asked if they could try pairing it with the car, and they said that they aren't allowed to mess with people's vehicles. I then tried pairing the radio to my phone via wifi instead of bluetooth. That works, and I was able to use internet on the road over the phone's wifi. Bluetooth does work to pair for phone calls, but not data. So, I do have a workaround, but there are two problems with it.

1. When my phone is a wifi hotspot, the phone itself has to have wifi reception turned-off. So, I need to toggle modes on my phone every time I get in/out of the car. Sucks.
2. The radio is smart enough to allow you to only update apps or synch dropbox when using a wifi connection so that you don't send your mobile data-usage through the roof. If the radio can't get internet thru blutooth, this feature is wasted and there are big data charges awaiting the unsuspecting.

Zakowsky, thank you for posting those links, I'll check them out.

One more thing about this radio, it's a hair taller vertically than the one it's replacing. This makes the horse shoe fit a bit tight at the top and it can interfere with the Hazard light switch. A buddy of mine bought the same radio at the same time, he found that removing some of the fabric tape that lines the edges of the screen makes it fit better. I haven't done this to mine yet, but I will when I go back in to wire the backup camera.

cheers,
c

Reading the alibaba description again, I guess it's not supposed to use bluetooth for data, only wifi. So, in that case, the only problem I've got is that warning message that pops up all the time. Anyone got a fix? Also, anyone know where the SD slots are? I haven't seen them.

cheers,
c

Vandal, I can't help you with any of your other problems regarding fit and finish, android package error toast messages, etc. since I am rocking the Seicane. It has it's own peculiarities that range from benign to aggravating AF. As far is this part goes:

Are you using an Android phone? I have programmed my phone to turn off wifi and turn on tethering whenever it connects to the car via bluetooth. Has worked like a charm for more than a year. I can't help you with #2 since I have unlimited data, though.

I have the same one as Vandal and have had it installed for three days. So far it is about 30% chance that it isn't frozen when I start the car... When it works it is pretty cool but more than not it won't even let me link to phone to play Pandora.
