The only way I can rationalize owning a Cayenne is used - the up front new depreciation is more than I paid for my house 40 years ago.. Drive a turbo across the dealers curb and it just decreased in value by about 30%.. I prefer to wait a few years and let someone much richer than me eat the big front end depreciation.

 

I find it hard to buy new again. I had to get GT3 new but only because used would actually cost more. But Cayenne and other cars - hard to justify new. Even rather major issues are smaller than just a few months of depreciation of a new car.

 

Agree with Don but my reasoning is the Cayenne is 20-30% overpriced to start with.

Check out the option pricing. What does it cost P for a headrest crest? Likely 10% of the option price.

 

Not that I'm arguing, or saying that Porsche option pricing is completely justified, but there's a certain amount of production and paperwork costs baked in to à la carte style options availability like you are afforded with a p-car. Comparing how you can order a Cayenne to something like my old Trailblazer SS... There are worlds more obscure options available separately. Lighted Door sills, embossed arm rests, deviated stitching? A nightmare as far as production speed goes.

And I would still buy used again. Knock on wood, my GTS hasn't missed a lick.

 

I think you have to go through a dealer. Mine was napleton Porsche near Chicago. I think like with anything it's best to shop around. I think you can also call easycare and get the names of some local dealers around you.

I got a CarChex warranty for my 08 RS4 last year. 3 yr 36K for about 4000. Just in case.

 

Absolutely - as long as I know the history of the car, both service and otherwise. IMO that is the key to having a good experience buying any used car - especially Porsche.

 

Just make sure the used one was sold because the owner wanted the newer features of a newer model and not because they are tired of fixing stuff!

 

I think with any used car you have to plan for "sorting costs" part of ownership.
