Default Has anyone sourced a 16" or 17" wheel for a CTT

Once again, on Saturday I took some visitors on a non-technical red rock trail ride in the CTT and was constantly worried about the P Zero Rossos and my pretty AL wheels vs the sharp rocks that stud and line the forest roads hereabouts. I go through this every time we have guests. A second set of wheels and some AT tires to throw on for these occasions would clear my paranoia but, if I do that, I may as well do it right with more sidewall and less rim filling the wheel well than the 18s. It's cheaper than buying a Jeep. Can anyone tell me about alternative 16s or 17s that fit the 955 CTT? The alternative is to just get tougher 18" tires, but nothing seems appropriate for 99% highway/1% trails use.

Before I sold the touareg, I was thinking of doing this, not sure if 17 Touareg wheels will clear a cayenne turbo brakes:

Destinations 265/70/17

According to Porsche, 18" minimum wheel diameter is required to clear the brakes on the turbo. That being said, I believe that there are cases where people have used 17" wheels with spacers.

What Dennis C said. Porsche say's 18" min. for the Turbo and 19" min for the CTTS. I know on my CTTS which came with 20", the 19" snow wheels that I have are tight on the calipers and rotors.

I put BFG T/As on a Montero some years back...great ATs; no-so-great highway tires. I took them off after three months. They were noisy, hard, and had poor tracking at interstate speed. Tough offroad tires, but overkill for casual and occasional trail runs. But, if I go with a second set of 18s for the trail, its good to know 265/65s fit. No rubbing when turned?

Fit fine!

I've had them on 5-6 cars and haven't noticed any of the problems you note. Did you have aftermarket wheels on that car that changed the offset/track width?

The BFG at is probably the single most loved tire on earth. Got to be a reason!

I've been impressed with the road manners for the Yoko AT-S and Pirelli ATR, both of which were better than the OE's all seasons they replaced for dry/wet grip, quiet and comfort. In fact my wife prefers the ATRs on her Rover over the Mich Lat's they replaced. Both are available in an HR rated 265/60-18, which is 30.5". I had ATRs on my GTS too.

So the suspension on the high setting works...

what happens when you go over 75mph and the CTT lower to low ride height?

Fits totally fine at normal ride height around town/parking lots, dips, turns etc and in low at any normal straight line driving speeds. I've never tried to whip a uturn with it at low, so, no idea.

Yep. I've been to every cars and coffee! Just never bring the Cayenne.......honestly, I almost never drive the Cayenne!

Most of our cars and coffee trips in the last year have been in the Eurovan Westfalia or the 928S4.

Yeah....the reason is spelled "J-E-E-P". BFG TAs just aren't my cup-o-tea at 80+ mph, where most of my miles are. Looks like I'll have to stick with 18s and I don't want to go over the OEM tire OD by more than a bit. Slim pickins.

I grew out of the 80+mph thing on public roads when I was 16!

Takes no skill to drive like an......

Why the attitude...are you a Pats fan trapped by fate in CO? The speed limits on the interstate in most of AZ are 75. 80 is just keeping up. Its all relative.
