Default 04 CS - Dash pieces near windshield rattling

Does anyone know how to remove the dash piece that meets the windshield directly to the left of the driver's side (LH) dash speaker? It's rattling and I need to put some felt under there.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. I was able to take some foam striping to wedge near the windshield. Also wedged a piece of thin cardboard between the driver's side speaker plate and dash piece. But it looks so crappy and I'm embarrassed. Would love to get this fixed properly. I figured I could pry up on the pieces, but I don't want to break anything. Even if I was able to remove just the driver's side dash speaker plate that would be good enough. Any insight would be highly appreciated.

I have the same problem, but I have not attempted to tackle the problem yet. It is cold up here in Canada and working outside is not fun.

I have the same problem. If I push on it while driving it will stop making noise. I need to ask my Indy if he knows how to get in there.

I found this. Does this imply that they just pop off or does it look like screws are holding them in?

I'm guessing they pull of with cringeworthy level of force like other dash trim parts. But don't quote me on that. Hopefully someone will show up that knows for sure. I would love to put some dampening in there. My rattle on buzzes on certain road surfaces but I no likey.

Davie, are you sure the rattling is not coming from the mirror control housing attached to the driver's side A-pillar? This is a common source for rattling.

For me I can push on the area in question while driving and it will stop.

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty sure as I can wedge some foam paddig up near the windshield and between the driver's side speaker and dash piece. This elminates the rattles but looks pretty horrible. I will double check the mirror control though.

Andy E, you might be right as when I push on the mirror **** assembly with my fingers it squeaks quite a bit. I pulled the foam and the paper off my dash as I just couldn't stand to look at it anymore. I did temporarily wedge something between the A pillar and the plate over the mirror ****. I'll post back as to whether it does anything and of course, this is just temporary.

I asked this question long ago as well...the buzzing even at 5 mph speeds defies logic. I have a long handled windshield microfiber pad handy to push on it. It's on the passenger side speaker cover unfortunately. Got no answer then either.

Bump, definitely not the mirror control housing. It's the driver's side speaker cover / dash piece. Would love to know how to remove it. ;-)

There was a problem on 03/04 models at least where the foam under there would creep out from vibration, dealer replaced mine twice, in 05 they replaced with newer part number and it stayed put. I know some people who just pulled it out and threw it away since it was unsightly.

Pulling those dash pieces at this age will result in tears

Do you think it would be possible to stuff something underneath? That way I could avoid damaging the dash by trying to pull pieces. I did wedge some foam stripping (designed for doorways) up where the windshield meets the dash and that seems to keep it quiet most of the time.
