Default Porsche PCM question

Hi guys, I've had my cayenne for a few weeks now and this is driving me nuts, I did a European delivery and while i was in Europe the traffic was displayed and I could see the option to activate it in the menu (it was amazing the amount of traffic info displayed).

Now I get my car delivered here in Canada (Montreal) and I have no traffic info, the option is not even in the menu, I asked my dealer and he said that we have no traffic info in Canada but if I drive in the US it will display!?!?

So after reading up on this apparently there is a XM nav traffic service you can get but I also read that it sucks (I have no XM option) my question is, even if I have no XM should I not see the "show traffic" option in the set map / map view options?

Also does anyone know if the traffic will just magically show up once I drive in the US?

I have a feeling I'm getting the run around and they don't look as they know what they are talking about.

You may or may not have the traffic signal in the Montreal area, I'm really not sure about Canada but I also am thinking that you should see the option in the menu. Either Porsche in Europe or your dealer must have reprogrammed your PCM for North America. Wait for a few others that also have newer Cayenne's to chime in and see if that is the case, the dealer may have to re-activate it with PIWIS.

That's exactly what I was thinking, even if there is no signal the option should still be available.

I'm not very confident about the servicing and my dealerships knowledge, I had enquirer about installing a reverse camera and they told me it's not do-able, then I spoke to an after market Instalation and the guy told me that the new models are somewhat easy to upgrade...I wish I was back in Germany where they knew everything there was to now about the car lol

The traffic signal is normally sent via rds , different countries broadcast this on free to air radio channels or as a subscription service, when I lived in Switzerland it was free via DRS1, but here in UK with the same car I have no traffic info. It is automatic and the radio will pick it up depending where you are in the world, there is as far as I am aware no recoding to be done.

hi bigfoot,
thanks for the input however I have no chance of displaying the info one way or another if I don't even have the "show Traffic" option displayed in my settings.

or do you think that the option will show up in the right environment?

I would basically need someone who has a version of 4.41 PCM without XMsat to confirm if they have the "show Traffic" as an option in the settings.

The show traffic option only shows when the signal is present, otherwise you will only see the address book and sometimes the radiotext.

thanks for the link, i was under the impression that regardless of if i have a signal or not the option should at least be in the list to select or de-select, i don't even have it as an option.

if that's the case is it worth getting XM just for the traffic?

I had traffic info while in germany, denmark and sweden and it was fantastic.

I DO use the traffic map in rush hour situations. One can also go to messages and get individual (highway numbers) alerts and red/yellow/green displays. I wish they would put live weather radar on our screens.

So the NavWeather is not supported on the nav system? I was kind of psyched about that feature.
