Cardan Shaft Replacement: Rebuilt (Vertex vs coloradodriveshafts) vs EPS vs New
Looks like I have the dreaded Cardan shaft issue with my 08 CS. Vehicle has 78.5k miles. It just happened this morning.
Trying to compare: Rebuilt (Vertex vs coloradodriveshafts.com) vs EPS vs New
If you have used one of the above, what has been your experience. Please share.
Need to make a quick decision.
Thanks in advance.
Raj

I bought a new shaft, but it has never felt balanced....maybe it was the installation. I am just about to replace it again. This time, I using the original shaft with an ECS bearing and having it balanced.

I have put vertex rebuilds in a number of customer p!gs including my own. No issues so far. Just remember vertex is/was a core charge so save the box and take the old one out nice.

Make sure to replace your flex disk and not just the driveshaft. Even if you put a new or rebuilt shaft that is perfectly balanced if you use the old flex disk.. that could be slightly more worn in one area and cause vibrations. I believe vertex ships with a new flex disk but not sure about other suppliers.

I decided to go the brand new route. Took me approx. 2 hrs because the rear shaft was jammed into the diff. A bit of PB Blaster and it popped out. I now have a spare useable core in case someone wants to use it to just swap the bearing section. $150 shipped. Could save you downtime.
BTW, unit it built by GKN, an OEM supplier and came with flex desk.

I'm getting mine done this Wednesday at the Indy. I asked them about a rebuilt one and, right or wrong, they are not recommending them until they've been out a little longer. They estimated $850-900 for replacing with a new one. Seems like a fair deal to me.
