Ipod integration only if add Bose system?
Hello everyone, I am a greenhorn here. Currently, I have a 987 Boxster with an aftermarket navigation system (I originally ordered the car with basic sound system). I can control my iPod directly through the navigation screen using the USB cable.
Soo, when I ordered a 2014 Cayenne diesel, I thought that such a feature would be standard when ordering the PCM with navigation module (I am ordering the premium package plus). So, I was kind of surprised when the sales advisor said that in order for me to have Ipod USB integration with the PCM, I have to also have to order the Bose package. Otherwise, I can only control the music through the iPod.
I was reading the brochure and there is nothing that is clear about this. It does seem to support what the sales person said. Maybe anyone here would be able to enlighten me?
Thank you.

Bump.
Well, since no one answered, maybe a better question is how does the PCM with navigation module interreact with an iPod? Does it control the Ipod playlist or do I have to use the Ipod to select playlists.
Thanks again.

The salesman is wrong. iPod USB input is included when you have NAVI, you do not need to get BOSE. On my 2013 Cayenne S, I do not have BOSE but since I have NAVI, I have USB and have full iPod control on the PCM.

Not sure how I missed this earlier or I would have answered, sorry.
Your salesman either doesn't know his product or is trying to scam you from more money. If you upgrade to either the CDR+ or Navigation you get the iPod interface. Having the Bose or Burm upgrades are not required.
If you take a look the "Accessories" page in "Features" under the Diesel and find the bit towards the bottom about the "CDR audio system and CDR Plus audio system" it talks about the iPod (and other types) support on page 3 under the CDR+ details. The CDR+ is just the PCM+Nav without the Nav functions.
With the older system (I have a Oct build 2013 CD) you can either plug a supported iPod into the USB port with a standard iPod cable or use Bluetooth. Both appear to have the same functionality of controlling the music, access to track info, and access to playlists. For the new version (starting in Nov build 2013s and later) I know you also get album art, but I don't know if that is limited to the physical interface or if it works via BT as well.

Thank you all too. I appreciate it. I think the salesperson was trying to get me buy more in order to cover part of the outright discount he gave me. So I told him not to order anything with the name "Bose" in it. lol.
Though I almost missed the AHA option. On the built list, it only says "Online Services." My 2013 brochure says nothing about it. Only after some research did I realize it is must option for me, and cheap at $210.

Album cover art display is possible through USB input, iPod or USB stick, and from the Jukebox internal music storage, these features are standard starting Nov 2012 at no extra cost. The BT format is not capable of album art display.

Yea, I'm on my second PCM, a 17/08 PCM 2.1 in my '06 CTTS and it still has the occaisonal hickup so I'm sure someday when it goes again I will look to the much better and much more advanced aftermarket.
