Question Slight groaning noise from steering

At a stop, when I turn the wheel on our 2006 Cayenne S I seem to be getting a slight groaning noise with a slight amount of vibration up through the steering wheel. It does not happen when it is moving and the reservoir is full of fluid. Anyone else experience this?

Weird question, but much tread is left in your tires and does feel like the engine is stalling. I had the same experience when my tires were worn. If the tread is worn, a larger surface area of the tire will touch the ground. Because of the resistance, the pump draws a larger load on the engine.

The same thing happen on my Audi too, I could even see the RPM drop very slightly. I changed the serpentine belt and it that help or it could've been a coincidence.

Edit: forgot an entire sentence

Plenty of tread on the tires. Engine doesn't slow down. My concern is that it may be a problem in the pump as that is when the pressures are the highest. Could be a failing internal seal causing the noise. I am hoping that someone else has had the exact same issue and what the resolution was.

Is it also not fully assisting the steering? My porsche tech mentioned it when doing some work last year and said if the pump goes it is a costly issue. I've ignored it but have similar issues to yours, it isn't loud but I hear it and feel the tires gripping. It is a heavy vehicle with grippy tires so stand to reason power steering is under tough circumstances when the vehice is not in motion.

It works perfectly. Just starting doing this occasionally about 6 months ago.

This is one of those.. some of them just do this. Mine does it. I flushed the PS fluid - no help. My CPO covered: replacement power steering pump - nothing. Replacement steering rack and tie-rod ends (and 4 wheel alignment) - nothing.

It's like the MD tells you when you say "It hurts if I poke myself here.." and he says "Don't poke yourself there.."

My WAG - it may be a sign of slightly worn suspension bushings. Or - perhaps a weak tensioner on the serpentine belt (not moving is MUCH more of a load on the system then when the truck is moving, even at a crawl.)

Mine did it with 3 different sets of tires - so it's not the tires (old Latitudes, new DWS, and new Pirelli Snows.) It seems to do no harm at all. I'm in forgedaboutit mode until something really goes wrong.

Mine has done this without change or attention for the last 110,000 km (ie as long as I've had it).

I will probably do likewise, but I tend not to be like this:

Hi Guys,

is this the steering noise that you are getting?

https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...ease-help.html

If so, let me know if you've had any luck!

I am having the exacttttt same issue....New tires and it did with the old ones too. When I reverse out of my driveway and turn out to the street there is a funny vibration in the steering wheel. I was worried so if anyone knows the cause or solution lemme know.
