Wink

Modified 04 Turbo, shaft at 95k

But I had to rebuild the one in my 1998 Jeep at 75K, and 130k. Did it 4-5 times on my 87 Jeep. Need to do them again in my Dodge truck. Replaced the one in the Audi S4 and S6 at about 140k. Rebuilt the torque tube on my 951 at about 130k.......wait.....all this is telling me is that frickin' driveshafts wear out and need replacing!!!

Mine was going bad at 48K so I asked Porsche to replace it under warranty, they did!

60k mile part. change it out. if you dont, you know its gonna bite ya at the worst time. get the rebuilt shaft for $375. easier job than splitting the shaft. got it down to an hour on a lift.

Yes, a 2010 GTS. That's just one of several problems I've had with it. This is probably my last Cayenne.

Thanks Scott, you've just pushed me off the fence, will order it today. Last time I was stranded on the side of the road with a car failure was when my timing belt snapped on my Volvo 242GT back in the late '80's, I was damn lucky it didn't do any damage to the valve train. Don't want to go through that again.

Thanks again all.

Mine went bad on the '05 S around 80k miles IIRC. If you're planning on keeping it awhile, you should strongly consider doing it.

Ordered one this AM from Colorado Driveshaft (link posted above). $375 not counting the $100 core charge (since I'll get that back). Thanks all.

Hmmm...we're approaching 38k miles on our 2008 GTS. Is that rhythmic thrumming sound I'm hearing between 45-48 mph an early indicator of shaft/bearing failure? I first noticed it probably around 30k miles, but it only does it at those speeds.

Am I right to understand that the Turbo S driveshaft part # has superseded all others? 955-421-020-25 I guess I'll do the Flex disc at the same time as it was recommended by some. I'm at 65K on a '06 CTTS and a visual of the bearing support looks good when I push and tug on it but it sounds like it's days are already numbered.

So what are the consequences of driving it until it breaks? LOL

I don't intend to do that. I will be keeping an eye (ear) on that and watch for it getting worse. We are covered by a third party extended warranty until January 2017 or 85k miles. If it needs repair, I will only be subject to a $200 deductible and shop fees.

Well the noise will get worse then it will turn to a thumping then it will break and you will be stranded somewhere deep in the forest where the gremlins live

I would get it looked at to make sure there is play since it still could be tires but that's a long shot IMHO
