Porsche had the ridiculous 20K oil change interval at first and I'm sure Mobil is making them a screaming cheap marketing deal on their oil, but with the cylinder wall scoring I wanted the 5W-40 and an oil that was better than their specs, plus I only go around 7K~8K change interval. Lets the spears fly.
My target is 7,500 mi. but I don't worry if I miss it by 1 or 2k mi.
The days of 3,000 mi oil changes are long past unless you're using some really cheap crap or in really severe conditions.

5w50 for a TT sounds like a really good plan to me.

My dealer uses Pennzoil Syn 0-40 exclusively.

Any chance they're a Sonic dealership? The Nashville dealer is Sonic and they use Pennzoil but that's because Sonic uses that across all their dealerships, not because they think that's the best oil for Porsche's.

(This info is about 3 yrs. old, the last time I had the oil changed at the dealer. Haven't asked if that's still the case.) IIRC they did have 0w40 in individual bottles if you asked for it but the price was higher over the bulk Pennzoil. I only had them change it since I was near the end of CPO warranty, wanted them to check the P!g over real well to see if it needed anything.

I'm pleased I asked the question!

The redline oil, can that or similar be purchased in the UK?

You may be able to purchase Redline in the UK but in Europe you have many good choices. In N. America we have some of the best oils but also some of the worst, a very broad market. You can check out http://www.redlineoil-europe.com/ but also oils such as Motul, Pentosin, Castrol Edge, and of course LiquiMoly. Just check to see if they meet Porsche A40 requirement. If they are 5w-40 they most likely do.

I just had my oil changed; installed Motul 8100 5W40. I also use in iny 911 TT. Motul exceeds all Porsche recommendations. IMO it's great! Bought 4 liters (20 qts) on Amazon for approximately $135.00 including free shipping which is enough for two oil changes

Isn't 4 liters approximately 4 qts? I think those motul containers are 5L so I am assuming you bought 4 of those...

Btw, how much does the v8 955 take to fill again?

Yes, the Motul comes in 5L jugs, the place I order from sells (3) 5L jugs to a case, they'll sell in odd qty but I stick to ordering it by the case. Price has gone up since the last time I ordered (naturally), someone mentioned it's available through Amazon.

IIRC the 4.5 v8 is 9L when doing oil & filter (not exact but pretty close).

Any experience with German Castrol 0W30? It's actually closer to a 40-weight oil, than 30. My Audi allroad 2.7T had some remarkable, 10k intervals with stellar Blackstone UOAs.

You don't say? Can you prove it? The only "light years ahead" I see is in price.

To the OP. I would only use whatever oil meets Porsche std. I would not go any longer than 7500-8k between oil changes.

my local Wmt has been carrying 5qt bottles of M1 0w-40. I have not seen Castrol offered in that weight.

This is a matched set of statistics that I'm about to make up but is probably true.

There are more high mileage Porsches out there running on Mobil 1 than any other oil.

More Porsche engines have failed running Mobil 1 than any other oil.

Get my drift?
