Wish I had done Leipzig pick-up. =( But then again I wish I lived in Germany (or anywhere else in Europe) so that I could get a Diesel S.

Their official list only reflects the Goodyear LS2 and the Michelin Latitude Tour HP GreenX (a LRR tire). I had the LS2 on my Touareg and thought they were noisy. Don't have a clue why Leipzig put apparently non-approved tires on mine. But I didn't even waste my breath with the dealer trying to explain this. I simply told them to swap the Conti's out for the N-1 Michelin, and I'd pay the $500 retail difference.

Greg, I haven't concerned myself whether a tire is Nx (Porsche approved) or not. I think, for the most part, whether a tire mfgr. has submitted a tire to Porsche for approval and suspect there is a cost to the mfgr. associated with that approval process. I don't believe many of the tire mfgrs (other than the European ones) that think it's worth the expense. I've been running Yokohama Prada Spec X's on my Cayenne for a couple of years now. They're not N rated and I don't know that any Yoko tire is N rated. I've had no problems with these tires and I've driven them pretty hard including a few drives at Porsche Palooza in NW AR (very fun twisty roads).

I understand why a dealer will only go with N spec tires but that's not going to limit me on my selection. I feel the same way with the 993 but the tires I have on it now (Mich. Pilot Sport Plus A/S) happen to be N1 (might be N2?) anyhow, but that's not why I bought them.

I had Yoko Advan's on my GTS as the OE n-spec tires. They were a great tire, no remorse about not having the Michelins

Yep, per TireRack's site I see the Advan's are N's (summer tire).

A few of us run the Prada Spec-X's or the Conti DWS but neither of those are N spec.

Well it took from MY2009 till MY2013 to get the six cylinder diesel here. Using that timetable, the V8 may take until MY2017

Hate to think about the sticker shock in the US, but the idea of a Porsche V8 diesel in a SUV for towing and generally not sucking 15 mpg gas and filling up every three or four days ... that's not unappealing .. it would be great if Porsche would do the unexpected like have a "tow" mode in Tiptronic with engine-braking and a built-in trailer-brake controller ... you know, stuff that's "basic" in pickups from last century ...

unless VW decides to rebadge the amarok and sell it as porsche whatever in the US, I highly doubt you'll be seing "tow mode", engine braking & built in trailer-brake controller in a porsche anytime soon.

According to my owner manual, the 3.0l diesel does incorporate engine braking. But a built-in brake controller may be some time in arriving. That said, I bought a Tekonsha Prodigy RF for my Touareg; controller is fitted to the trailer, wireless remote control/sensor goes inside the car. Moving it from the Touareg to the Cayenne was as simple as unplugging it from the cigarette lighter and carrying it to the Cayenne. Cost <$276USD delivered, zero dollars and 10 minutes to self-install on the Touareg. Then zero dollars and 10 seconds to move it to the Cayenne.
