Cayenne S: How is the Auto Transmission Oil level checked?

Similar but not identical to VW AT units, the tiptronic auto transmission is meant to be a non-serviceable unit. This means that replacing the fluid is something that is to be a shop-only procedure requiring disassembly of the ATF cooler lines to properly flush the system.
To inspect ATF fluid levels, you must first remove the engine base cover and access the largest of the two plugs at the bottom of the AT reservoir. Unscrewing the large plug will yield a few ml's of oil however the fluid level can be checked by visually verifying if the fluid level is at the top level of the fill tube.
Vehicle must be running at operating temperature and in N or P during this procedure.

What light? AFAIK there is no level warning light for the auto-transmission. When it starts slipping on shifts is a big clue the fluid is low and you've probably destroyed the transmission. That could happen if you were waiting for a low AT fluid warning light to turn on.

By Engine Base cover he means the cover you would remove under the engine/transmission to change engine oil etc... With the engine running at a certain ATF temp (40'C) , which must be read with Durametric or Vagcom, you then unscrew the fill plug and if oil doesn't drip out, you fill until oil comes out then recap before shutting the engine off. Don't pull the fill plug with the engine off or you will loose a couple of quarts of fluid.
Some of us here have done a fluid change as preventative Mx which includes driaining the fluid and pulling the oil pan and replacing the pan filter, refilling then running the engine and topping off per the Manual, it's really not difficult and takes around 10qts or so but you need to be able to read the oil temp electronically. Some have done it and just run the engine for a while but I wouldn't recommend straying from the factory fill procedure for and expensive transmission.

Where I live (middle east) the outside air temp is 40 degrees...AT NIGHT, during the day it goes up to 43-45...so I am sure after a 20/30 min drive everything will be up to operating temperatures.

After that long of a drive the temp would probably be too hot, the temp does get way over 40'C. Most likely with that starting temp you wouldn't want more than a 10~15 minute idle to get it to 40'C.

You will get many opinions on here. Some of us probably overdo preventative Maintenance. With that said if it was my Cayenne I would do it between 80~100,000 Kilometers. There are many compatible oils and you will get many opinions on here. I use a fully Synthetice (Redline D4 ATF). Many say that Mobil 3309 is the same a the Porsche (Toyota IV) fluid. The transmission is made in Japan by Aisin, they manufacturer also sells there own fluid too. VW/Audi also sell fluid that would be compatible in comparable years as the Touareg and Q7 use a version of the same transmission too.
