Smile 2004 Turbo or 2006 Titanium S ?

I've narrowed down my search to 2 Cayennes.

Guys wanna help me decide?

1. 2004 Turbo $27k, 65k miles
http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/3118970828.html
pros: Turbo, PASM, 20" wheels
cons: grey is my 3rd choice of color (after black and white), don't like the all brown interior, the 2004 might have a few more maintenance issues?

2. 2006 Titanium S $28k, 68k miles
http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/3118750568.html
pros: Panoramic moon roof (these are rare), 2-tone interior, I prefer black over the grey
cons: smaller wheels (I might want to replace them), the front grill looks a little "nerfed" compared to the open bottom grill of the Turbo edition.

What do you think? #1 or #2?

Look for something with a cpo warranty. Repairs will be expensive.

What's your vote though? And 65k miles isn't too bad, is it?

Either one would be good. I'd lean towards the turbo, especially if the coolant pipes have been replaced...

Ahhh - good idea. I should ask about the coolant pipes. Anything else I should ask about in terms of past service?

I couldn't leave with the sh*t brown interior. Find a turbo with black int.

Turbo. Ask about:
Coolant pipes
Cardan shaft
Ignition coils
Transmission valve body (electrohydraulic control unit as Porsche calls it)
Water pump
None of these are ridiculously major repairs if they haven't been done, though coolant pipes are a must.

You must have a different "ridiculously" threshold then I do..
  • Coolant pipes are running ~$2,000 for getting them done (not DIY)
  • Transmission valve body - someplace in the same ball park.
  • Cardan shaft - I've heard of > $1,500 prices from dealers. Less from an independent.

Any of those is not going to escape inspection/commentary by SWMBO..

BTW - the '06 black **** edition is unique. Haven't seen that interior color combo, it is rather appealing (my black/gray interior is becoming boring..) Plus the pano roof. Advantage to the '06, the transmission valve body probably won't need replacing or reprogramming.

regardless of the low mileage I'd agree with the CPO comment. Or have 3-5k ready to burn on that 04 turbo.

I should have said that none of those would be a deal breaker for me. Parts for any of those issues will be $900 or less if you shop smartly, and i wouldn't consider any of them difficult repairs - the coolant pipes are the most involved. Of course if you're paying someone to do the job, any of these can break $1k.
And for those saying that an '06 won't have valve body issues, I replaced a valve body on a lightly-driven '06 Turbo S with 63k miles on it. It had a very violent 4-5 shift. Of course, I've also seen higher-mileage '04s that never had an issue with the transmission.
I will say that I've seen about 8 engine failures from non-turbo 4.5s, and no engine failures from the turbo motors, so if it were me, I'd feel better about the Turbo. You can't predict everything that will go wrong with a car, so get what you like, and plan for the worst.

Care to elaborate on this one?

To the OP, I vote for the 06 Ti-S

Pipes can be a DIY if you are good with a wrench. Aroung $550 in parts and the satisfaction of doing it yourself is Priceless.
Cardan shaft and coils are also a DIY project.
