Thanks for the post, John, I enjoyed your description of the offroad performance of the Cayenne. Maybe Porsche will change its mind in the near future, but for the life of me I can't figure out why they won't competitively race the Cayenne in some serious offroad rally races like Paris-Dakar. Their marketing budget for the Cayenne is huge and the however many millions (10 to 20?) of dollars it would take to prepare and run the C in such a race is paltry compared to what they are spending on ads (guy running from the front to the back of his RV to gawk at a Cayenne pulling onto a road and passing him?, come on). Running in a serious offroad race would instantaneously attach an incredible offroad performance aura to the Cayenne. Do you have any indications that Porsche will go in this direction?

Great Post, John. Sounds exciting.

Did you learn if there will be a seperate PDE course for the Cayenne?

(BTW, When mpm goes for his test-drive please take plenty of pictures.)

RobertG,

I have to agree, he thinks the FX45 is ugly, I wonder why? Because he sells Porsches. If he sold Infinitis he'd think they were the $hit!

In the few days that we've owned the FX45 we've had neighbors come over to visit to check out the car, people stop us at the grocery store and elsewhere to inquire about it, several "thumbs up" from other drivers, etc. I just don't see that happening with the Cayenne, it looks like a shoebox and its interior was nowhere near as nice as the FX45 and I thought the Cayenne interior was the better part of the car! John H in D.C. is right. If Porsche wants the Cayenne to be taken as a serious off-road vehicle it is going to have to enter some off-road races and prove themselves, it is going to have to climb widowmaker, metal masher or other trails at Moab as opposed to driving a dirt road to a base camp there.

I'm waiting for one to come to the track so I can run circles around it and Porsche's claim that it is faster than the Boxster S... then again my S is modified like yours Robert, but I'd be worried about 5000 lbs tipping over and crushing my Boxster at the track if I was driving next to one.

yeah, 444 HP or not, it wont be able to keep up with me and my lowely Boxster S at the Streets of Willow track., But, unlike my car it will be able to cut along the infield and cheat on the course
