No, my job allows me to test things before they are on the market, Cayenne included. I am in the US.

Apologies for the commercial gaff, 996 v 993 nothwithstanding, my pseudo C4S commercial was funny...

RobertG - Don't check your PM or Email, I didn't send you anything, but we can whisper over in another forum...

""If I am "arguing" anything it is that my selection criteria are likely to be more common and thus represent more buyers than say Brent's selection criteria.""

Well...... I'm not so sure of that. There are a couple of camps out there. One is served by the likes of the FX, RX330, X5, the car based utes. These people, in my estimation, are looking strictly for the on road performance. There NEEDS are really for a car, not a truck. It just so happens that SUVs are a popular segment and there are some neat vehicles in it.

The other camp is served by the ML, Cayenne, Lexus GX470, these are more truck type vehicles. They have usable towing capacity, low range transfer cases, they have some modicum of off-road prowess, whether it is ever reralized or not.

If I just wanted / needed a spacious, fast vehicle with awd, I would be shopping Audis and avoiding the tall wagon niche altogether. I think there is a big group out there that actually needs / wants the extra utility afforded by the second group. I think you sell Porsche short if you think they did not thoroughly study this market before entering. After all, the last new model the introduced was the one you drive Ken, it was an unqualified success, and a great car.

The Cayenne S in the $50k range is a great value considering its myriad of capabilities, at least in my estimation. It is backed up by the wicked fast turbo version. Probably more of an image leader than a big seller but, I predict they will sell every S they can build. If the Porsche name sells it for some, so what? Name sells tons of products out there. There is quite a bit of high quality engineering behind this one. I predict a winner.

Thanks for the updates. While I am not Cayenne fan and have been very critical of it and the decision to make it I do appreciate your first hand knowledge. While I have yet to be convinced that is it really any good I can respect other people's ideas and opinions. (Even if they are wrong <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> !)

Guys,
Lets keep the personal bashing to a minimum and just attack the cars. I have been providing opinions to this forum for quite sometime now and this is really the first post to get nasty. All other heated discussions have seems less personal and more ideas oriented.

Lets keep it that way!

I agree it's unfortunate. Here and on the racing board we suddenly have a couple of people who immediately resort to name calling.

A shame because the boards had been free of that -- even one with a subject as controversial as the Cayenne

Don't think they'll ever do it in a sedan form themselves.
