Apologies if my constant biting sarcasm of the P-fish has offended...

When I call the P-fish the ultimate Poser Porsche, it would not apply to anyone on Rennlist - everybody here will buy it for their own reasons. More power to anyone who comes up with the scratch to buy this rig...

Respectfully,

I just thought I would throw this out to offer a little bit of hope to you all.

For the most part I thought the same as most of you. That the vast majority of SUV owners didn't have a clue about their rigs. That was until I went to the "Land Rover Rendezvous" in Big Bear a month or so ago. There were some pretty tricked out trucks there, but there were also a few stock Freelander's, Discovery's, and even a couple brnad spanken new Range Rover's. Now that was imperessive, to see a couple guy/gals out there in the rocks and dirt tearin' it up in an $80K truck. I have a new found respect for the Land Rovers I see on the road, especially ones with dirt all over them.

So, I do agree that the majority of 4X4 SUV owners don't use the vehicle for it's intended purposes. There is hope that when Cayenne arrives there is a chance that it will be used as designed.

I dont think the allroad will be discontinued. As a matter of fact here in USA the allroad will be available with the 4.2L V8 for 2003. The price is not really an issue. Audi has the S6 wagon, $64,000. BMW had the 540 Sport wagon which is more...

Long live the Allroad.....

I really wanted the S6 Avant but didn't want the 4 month wait. Besides, couldn't imagine my wife with that much power. Still wish I'd have got it but love the allroad. May spring for the 4.2 when it arrives. Resale values seem to be holding up well here.

John Murray - where did you see the info re: V8 for the '03 allroad? Audi PR materials or rumour board.

To those who own '01 or '02 allroads - have you done any aftermarket modifications - engine, wheels, chips, etc?

I've always thought that the allroad or S6 would be a nice complement to a 993 in the garage

David,

The info on the 4.2l optional engine with 305hp and 280 ft-lb torque is in their 2003 brochure as well as on their website.

Part of the problem in US is taxes. The Allroad is not a truck for IRS/EPA purposes - X-5 and ML are. This means much 15 + years for full depreciation and a major tax disadvantage. For example first year tax write off in an X-5 can be as high as $28,000 an Allroad is less than $2,000, plus you pay Lux. tax.

Privates8 - thanks for the info, I also found it after surfing the Audiworld site. I've wanted one of these for a while but have been holding off since it's not critical for me to guy one NOW. The topic of the thread scared my as I thought it might be a "now or never" situation to pick up a new one. Now the only issue is whether to get a 2.7TT 6 speed or the 4.2 V8 auto...

David,

I have been researching this at great length recently. I just drove a 2.7TT manual the other day around some twisty roads with room for acceleration. It was a blast!

The manual overcomes, in my mind, any shortcomings of the smaller engine in their tiptronic(I had driven that a few days before and even it was better than I had expected).

If I need more than what the manual 2.7TT has to offer, then I should probably be in my p-car anyway!

I have been told by the dealers, by the way, that it is unclear for how long the allroad will be around, but it should be for at least 2 more model years. They are not sure when this reported A7 MAC(multiuse activity cruiser- their term for SUV) will appear, but minimally 2 years.

That is my $.02 anyway.

Whats a p-fish? Anyway i have 5 (yes five!) kids and we NEED an SUV. The only other choice is a minivan and they can't tow very well.... We have a Linclon Navigator. I hate Ford products but this is one that has good full third row theater style seats with adult leg room. EASY access to the third row and a factory DVD/TV combo. (should get an insurance discount for that!) It tows our boat, Sea-Doos and snowmobiles. I keep looking for something else but the Nav keeps winning out!!

I would buy one of these "estate wagons" if they could hold my family!!!

LOL...We just bought a 2003 Range Rover this week (fantastic car BTW and worth a look if you "need" an SUV). I can't wait to get it offroad and dirty - just like I've taken my precious 993 to the track on several occasions. The salesman took us through the dealer obstacle course in both a Discovery and the RR, and it's hard not to be impressed with the offroad abilities of Land Rover products.

Private8 - what was the dealer asking? $3-4K below sticker or so??

Dranon - I believe that the allroad and the S6 have a third seat row option - you would be able to carry 5 adults and 2 kids. Looks like you'll have to buy one now

David,

All the information which I have seen would suggest that seating capacity is 5. I do not believe that there is an optional third row. Maybe you are thinking of the Volvo XC90 which will shortly be out and does have optional third row seating.

My first dealer visit came up with an unsolicited(I had not gotten far enough to even ask about a discount when it was offered) discount off of MSRP of $2k for a 2.7TT manual with luxury package putting MSRP at $42k. I am researching further to see what the best discount available might be. Upon reviewing Edmunds.com's dealer invoice, it would appear that dealer profit on a full MSRP sale is $4k for the vehicle as specified above.
