Question Cayenne S - What OILS are recomended

Hi all,

Having acquired myself my first Porsche....I have a question about OILS

I am thinking of replacing all the Diff and Gear box oil....
Would you advise this is a good idea given the millage?
If so what types and amounts are required?

Its a Cayenne S 2003 - 4.5 normally aspirated - 103000 miles with no mods

I have had a major service performed in February as a precaution by my Local Porsche specialist who thankfully had no surprises to report!!

I look forward to reading your reply.......

Many Thanks in advance, John

I have a Cayenne S 2008
What model of Redline 75/90 do i put in the diffs
Is there only 1 viscosity or a NS oil for LSD?

P.S I put the Mobile 1 0/40w with Lucas syn oil stabilizer in the engine...Purrr. My bmw/porsche mechanic at Redline BMW pompano beach florida said the mobile 1 is a but light so adding the lucas will brig it up a bit and add lubrication, as it makes the mobile ! sticky to engine parts. He did say the reason for the light oil is the cams are hollow and need the right viscosity to flow to the parts.
I have been running Lucas syn in my M3 for 60kmiles and my engine is harmonic!....its also turned my nasty 351 V8 into a free-er engine after a few changes...the motors like to rev and sound better

Factory installed is Mobile 1. Stick with what works and you can't go wrong.

Similar answer, use what the dealer uses, OR take it to the dealer, like you did for your service, and let them change the fluids. It will likely be the last/only time you'll have to do it.

I Called Redline for the Answer on the correct diff oil for a Porsche Cayenne S 2008

Red Line Synthetic Oil Corporation
6100 Egret Court
Benicia, CA 94510
PHONE: (707) 745-6100 or (800) 624-7958
FAX: (707) 745-3214

Redline Tech Support Reply (Dave)...

USE
Red Line 57904 (75W90) Synthetic Gear Oil
Red Line's 75W90 Synthetic Gear Oil is their most popular gear oil, and is the preferred product in nearly all car and light truck differentials, both conventional and limited-slip. 75W90 is preferred for most racing applications. It contains friction modifier which is recommended for limited-slip units.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DO NOT USE
Redline 75W/90NS
This GL-5-type gear oil doesn't contain the friction modifiers for limited-slip hypoid differentials. This makes the transmission synchronizers come to equal speeds more quickly, allowing faster shifting and much easier low-temperature shifting. Can also be used in racing limited-slip differentials where weak spring design causes too much wheel spin.

IIRC the Transfer Case takes ATF, not gear oil.

Cayenne booked in for major service this weekend/Monday, also getting break fluid replaced, front and rear diff oil swapped out. Full Inspection hopefully giving clean bill of health before heading over to Germany.

Just to make sure the pig look his best for the trip he's also spending 2 days with a detailer for a wash, clay bar and then a 3 stage polish and full interior detail too

I run 5W/40 instead of 0W40.

Well.....picked the Pig up tonight. WHAT a difference on the drive home. So smooth, quiet....even free wheeling felt, well free!

Swapping out the diff oils seems to of taken years off...I'd say if you haven't done it and are up in the 80k miles plus, make it your next job.

Break fluid swapped out for new. Now don't seem to have the small vibration when stepping on the anchors - maybe a coincidence?

Finally, first full detail I've ever had done, and smooth as a baby's bottom!
